Okay, this explains Texas Republicans.
Yahoo Story

" According to a study by a Baylor University toxicologist, fluoxetine -- the active ingredient in the antidepressant Prozac -- is making its way to a lake in the Dallas area and into the tissue of the fresh water blue gill fish.

Bryan Brooks, an assistant professor of environmental studies at Baylor said the fluoxetine most likely made its way through a waste water treatment plant and into a river that feeds into Lake Lewisville, northwest of Dallas. "

Seriously, it is a rather sad commentary that we consume enough prescription medication that they've now become pollutants. It does add something to statement about odd behavior in certain regions. We can now say regarding Texas Republicans, "It's something in the water."

1. I'm sure Eli Lilly will now be suing the city of Dallas
for distributing Prozac for free in the water supply.

2. I hate to tell you this but when I was in college eon ago they......
were doing studies on this thing all over the world and found all those drugs we took in the rivers. Bio class teachers said it was a big worry then. They thought it may be why doses had to be increased so, for things.

3. anti-depressants are WAY overprescribed
people, these are SERIOUS DRUGS and should ONLY be taken for SEVERE ONGOING DEPRESSION. I'm SHOCKED at how many people get prescribed these things because they just got dumped or they don't get the job of their dreams.

5. And of course the pharmaceutical companies...
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 01:39 PM by GainesT1958
Are pushing them like CRAZY to doctors (though sales visits that usurp time with patients) and to patients themselves (through saturation TV and print ads). To me, the only difference between their actions and drug pushers on the street is that the drugs the pushers sell aren't taxed!

I sure hope the next Democratic president OUTLAWS "junkets" for doctors paid for by pharmaceutical companies--it would be particularly ironic, indeed, if a "Dr. President" Dean proposed such legislation!:D

B-)

4. No Duh
..."While he has been asked several times about whether fish on Prozac find pleasure in floating aimlessly and no pain when hooked by a fisherman, Brooks said the most important part of his findings are that some pharmaceuticals can make their way through water treatment plants and back into waterways."...

Listen .. I hope you all drink bottled or purified water.

When my relative had bladder cancer, the doc would pump her bladder full of chemo drugs and send her home. After she 'voided', she was instructed to allow the contents to sit for three hours before flushing the toilet! That ought to do it.

btw, some studies show that more people commit suicide when taking anti-depressants than when they don't take anything. Suicidal fish too?

AND HAHAAHA to reply #1
