for the latest round in rotten immaterialism.

what, you haven't heard of Immaterialism (now capitalized, now TMed) the latest art-e fad to hit the trade publications? Then hang your head in shame and repent by watching Alan Colmes until you realize what's missing from your life.

1. Someone should thank Ralph Steadham
Because he was clearly the inspiration for this artist's work. But I like it, for what it's worth.

14. You capture the spirit of the beast and the essence of the clan.
Thanks for your surrealistic work, thebigidea. It is a most fascinating and accurate portrayal of a monstrous family that would be at home during the fall of the Roman Empire or the rise of the Fourth Reich. I can almost see Caligula in the eyes and Himmler in the smirk. A despicable bunch captured in Dorian Gray.

BTW & speaking of Max Ernst: The Art Institute of Chicago houses several of his works. One painting, for me, is unforgettably beautiful. The work uses glass as a canvas. It is very small, only about 5" X 9". In it, I remember seeing an ocean universe of dripping sky colors and shapes and forests and life and people and cities and stars, all moving in its frozen perfection. It is mounted on a gallery wall about elbow-high. This is the only work of art I have ever wanted to steal. Of course, I wouldn't, but I had the strangest urge of "having to have it" that persists to the present day. It should be mine, I guess. Have you read the short story about unforgettable things written by the late Jorge Louis Borges called the "The Zahir"? This Ernst is like that. Your bacchanal W is like that, too.

15. I loved that piece
Edited on Thu Oct-23-03 10:41 PM by thebigidea
I lived in Hyde Park for a while making cheesy movies. The Dada and Surrealist room at the Art Institute was the greatest. That and the big Warhol MAO...

thanks for the comment, the Dorian Reich is definetely in mind.

Some day this will all make for one nightmarish oversized trade paperback-type-thing documenting the Cheney Years... and enough lawsuits as a result to keep me busy in my old age.

22. I like what you said: "Dorian Reich"
The sins of the father shouldn't be blamed on the son, unless the son does the same things as the father. The Smirkelgrüber und Poppie burning in Hades. What an apt image. Just, too, considering it would be hard to conceive of a more hideous portrait than what these two have created for the canvas that is the United States of America of today, IF it can be called living.

A chain most sinister ...Prescott Sr. begat Nixon. Tricky Dick begat Bush. Bush begat Reagan and may've tried to un-begat him after a month on the job. Then Poppy begat Smirk. After re-election in '72, Nixon ordered everyone in his cabinet and government to turn in their resignation, except "Bush. He would do anything for our cause."

The Kennedy-Nixon-Bush Connection

by Paul Kangas

EXCERPT...

After Nixon's landslide victory in 1972, he knew he had to centralize all power into the White House to keep his faction in power, not only to hold power, but to prevent the media from digging into how he secretly shot his way into the White House, just like Hitler shot his way into control of Germany. The first thing Nixon did was to demand signed resignations of his entire government. "Eliminate everyone," he told John Ehrlichman about reappointment, "except George Bush. Bush will do anything for our cause." (Source: Pledging Allegiance, Sidney Blumenthal.)

The reason why Bush will "do anything" is because his hands have as much of Kennedy's blood on them as do Nixon's, Hunt's, Sturgis's, Felix Rodriguez's and Gerald Ford's. This White House gang fears that if the public ever realizes how they shot their way into power it could set off a spark that would destroy their fragile fraud and land them in jail.

Other famous Watergate members of the CIA invasion that Bush recruited were Frank Sturgis, E. Howard Hunt, Bernard Barker and Rafael Quintero. Quintero has said publicly that if he ever told what he knew about Dallas and the Bay of Pigs, "It would be the biggest scandal ever to rock the nation."

Meanwhile, in 1960, Preston (Prescott? -- Octafish) Bush was running Nixon's campaign. Nixon was sent to South Vietnam to assure the French- connection government there that if France pulled out, the U.S. would step in to protect the drug trade from the GoIden Triangle. (Source: Frontline, 1988, "Guns. Drugs and the CIA"; Alexander Cockburn; "Cocaine, the CIA and Air America," S.F. Examiner, Feb. 2, '91; The Politics of Heroin in Southeast Asia, Alfred McCoy, 1972.)

One part that I want to know is what Nixon meant by "anything." There's word a Nixon White House tape released in 2002 has Dickler stating the Warren Commission was a hoax perpetrated on the American people. I'll see if I can reference that onto this thread, illuminated by this beautiful work of yours.

I wish someone would dig up dirt about Rummy/Cheney under the Nixon regime... Rumsfeld was sporting sick sideburns at the time, like the heavy in some bad action movie featuring explosions and/or John Saxon.

And besides, at least "Grimace" wasn't involved. What the fuck is he even supposed to represent in the McDonald's alternate universe?

by way of Manifesto.

Or maybe I'll put on a silver wig and sunglasses and say: "Oh, well - I really don't think about that, Bob. Gee, why is Nancy Reagan so mean? Boy, Brooke Shields is so dumb. But gee, Bob. The White House is really glamorous. I mean, really up there."

as far as acting, frothing mad at the monsters would be good. That's kind of the mood that prompts it. That and insomnia.

its interesting that you actually used the word "immaterialism" after I made it up for no apparent reason. Perhaps there is something to this labeling. Once you can frame a product, or brand it with an "ism," you get continuity. Or a pigeonhole, from which you end up signing autographs at RV conventions like Adam West forever more.
