1. Nope.
Metro State College of Denver is very liberal college, and wants stupid conservatives out (including the interim president).

UNC-Asheville is populated mostly by hippie kids, 60s wannabe kids & faculty, just like our city itself.

My daughter went to Warren Williams in '91. I thought it rather offbeat then, but don't know how it is now. I would think it not conservative.

3. Mixed Reviews
Our College Republicans are a great obnoxious representation of Bush's die-hard supporters but, even at the height of his popularity, they scared away twice as many people as they recruited.

It's just flat-out hard to polish a turd.

14. the College republicans are the largest club
here at American University as I understand it, regardless of their massive split in half last year over the future path of the club: neo-con or paleo-con. I laughed. Though the college democrats aren't any better. They held a "vigil for democracy" after the midterm election last year. How sad and pathetic. I avoid the clubs and just write my li'l blog when something pisses me off. Not weep for "democracy" with candles in hand on a cold November evening.

American U. is a very politically involved place, though more on international issues than domestic issues. There is absolutely NO love for Bush here, whatsoever. Not even among this year's college republicans, though I gather they do love and stick by Bush's ideas.

I also remember reading somewhere that most college kids enter college as republicans. I dunno if that is still true. That was probably in the summer of 2001.

4. Lessee... Reed College, hell no. Portland State, no. U of Portland? no.
Although that last one is kind of a tossup, given that it's a Catholic-oriented school and his anti-abortion attitude would probably go over better there than anywhere else in this rather liberal city.

11. Loyola in N.O. - Mostly anti-Bush
Here at Loyola U. in New Orleans, the college republicans are more active on campus than the college democrats, and there are more of them then Democrats too... however, there seems to be much unorganized anti-Bush sentiment on campus, including the professors. I've talked to many people who say that they are usually not political but will vote against Bush next year.

38. I would normally guess that at my alma mater
but last year Michael Moore did pretty well... and this year Wesley Clark drew a tremendous crowd just days after he announced his candidacy.

This is, btw, Dan Quayle's alma mater as well.

So perhaps things do change.

(I would guess that bush would still be welcome, though - just not as overwhelmingly as he might have a number of years ago.)

17. If you're referring
to the poll results that the news networks are chirping about, I think it should be borne in mind that there's a world of difference between approval and support.

Approval can just mean that you think someone's doing an acceptable job. These college students may feel that, for the fuck-up that he is, Bush is doing an acceptable job.

Support is a different kettle of fish. While many may feel he's doing an "acceptable" job, they don't necessarily feel he's best for the job--- or that he deserves reelection. Bush's support is revealed in his reelect numbers, which are considerably lower than his approval ratings.

18. Different colleges, different opinions
I watch three universities...

At Campbell University, which is run by the Baptists, they love the Chimp. Campbell is screamingly conservative; until twelve years ago, there was no dancing at Campbell. (You can still get kicked out for such things as handholding and sitting in cars too long if you do them often enough, premarital intercourse is grounds for immediate suspension and as for beer...well, let's not go there.)

Enough soldiers go to Fayetteville State University and Methodist College that you could say they lean slightly toward Bush, but just slightly. In a year or so things may be way different, though.

With the students, although not so much with the faculty, perhaps. He may be less popular at the other universities in the area, or so I hope. It's hard to say, though, since the DFW Metroplex is a pretty conservative place in general.

34. well, just wait
until the students graduate and try to find a job worthy of their education. And they aren't there. They're in India. Or Europe. So, the former students are under-employed. Survival employed. And there are no benefits. Because the Bushies have given even more power to the power elite CEO ruling class. Low pay. No bennies. Long hours. And you damn well better be grateful or you're out. Today's conservative students are tomorrow's Starbucks and GAP employees. No offense to those people. It's the economy. It's the structure. It's the CEO as Master of the Universe culture. Piracy. Take everything, leave nothing. Our tax money goes to Haliburton and The Carlyle Group. We don't even have medical coverage.

They believe that great, high-paying jobs are just out there waiting for them and perhaps to some extent they are, since the rich do take care of their own.

It will be interesting to see what happens, though. I'd certainly like to see a few of them learn how to ask, "Would you like fries with that?" and just get a small taste of how the other 99.9% live.

36. This is the weirdest damn thing I've ever seen
OK now surely you're going to accuse me of being biased - but while I usually am, I have to tell you that the following observation was about as objective as I can be.

I don't know what it is, but when I discuss Bush, hear others discuss Bush, watch letters to the editor, etc., even in some VERY conservative places, almost NO ONE seems to like the guy!

Now what are the odds?

You see his poll points, the outcome of the so called election. By logic one should see at least half the world around him as pro-Bush at any given time if you're fairly well traveled. So what's going on? Are we being shammed by one of the greatest snowjobs ever dared? Who really likes this guy and who is doing all these polls that show he's so popular?

Something smells rotten, and it isn't my laundry bin.

participant really liked Bush...even though the only really positive things they had to say about him was "he is highly moral (because he respects his wife) and he showed strength by going to war with Iraq.

in the middle of a major city, witha large minority population, which voted 80%+ for Gore. As I'm walking around, many Gore/Lieberman campaign around, and several of the houses have NO WAR signs...Anti War rallies were big...

But what gets me is the conservative whining. The university paper has two columnists that are quite conservative (and many times they appear together without a liberal on the opinion page) yet they still complain they don't have a voice on campus...Pretty pathetic!

41. Yeah, suprisingly
I go to a school that specializes in co-op, so the proximity to corporate dick seems to rub off on the students here, unfortunately. So the local political clubs are a lot further right-slanted than at the average school, which is unfortunate. The Conservatives(=Republicans) seem all too active, and the NDP(=left-leaning Democrats) club is almost nonexistant.

On the upside, most of them are relatively intelligent people(yes, smart righties do exist, they're just horribly misguided - they actually believe that their philosophy will help society!), and they're nearly all aetheist libertarians so they're not the standard hick conservatives(for example, they're more liberal on drugs than even I am), but that doesn't make them any less demonic on economic issues. Oh well, you win some and you lose some.
