Republicans gearing up for the RNC Convention
"What’s clear is, it won’t look like any other convention we’ve ever seen. We’re looking to provide as much access to reporters as possible," Mr. Wilkinson said, taking the war’s key lesson to the convention.

But that, as many reporters would remind him, is what he said in Qatar. The Army took down its Doha war room when General Franks moved into Iraq. But now, Mr. Wilkinson is re-assembling many of the media concepts used during the war for re-use at the Garden, home of the Knicks, the Rangers and the Westminster Dog Show. Many reporters will get a first look at the convention planning at a Republican press party on Oct. 23 at Bowling Green.

And next year, Mr. Wilkinson will once more be managing embeds—this time not war correspondents but political reporters—setting up shots, feeding and practicing projecting the story right above the heads of the print press, on the model of President Bush’s axiom from earlier this month: "Sometimes you have to go over the heads of the filter and speak directly to the people."

1. Wonder how many protestors and..
RNC dickheads are going to be showing up. I bet the protestors will far OUTNUMBER the RNC delgates and fans, and even if that, that the RNC will just nominate their dickwad whistleass and then flee out of NYS.

8. All 12 black Republicans on a stage
That should be an "inspiring" moment. :puke:

Maybe they can get the gay Republicans up there too.

Oh, and how could I forget the Parade of 9-11 Survivors Who Were Heroically Saved By George W. Bush's Quick Actions. Sure, the title's too long, but the parade is short.

5. Yep, just like the Soviet Union
The only difference between Bushevik Imperial Amerika (when it'sa done transforming itself some decades from now) and the Old Soviet Union will likely be the opposing rationales each nation used to lying justify it's Tyranny.

These are, without a doubt, the Good Old Days.

6. Who watches conventions, anyway?
I mean, really, other than the party faithful, who's going to watch these conventions? Don't the networks grouse because the ratings are so poor they lose revenue from the 80th showing of some "Friends" rerun?

Beleaguered NBC hit a historic low in the ratings last week, dragged down by a virtually ignored repeat of "The 10th Kingdom" miniseries and coverage of the Republican National Convention.

The network had an average prime-time audience of only 6.2 million people. Its 4.4 rating beat NBC's previous low for a week, set last summer, by more than a full ratings point or more than 1 million households.

NBC executives felt they had little choice but to rerun "The 10th Kingdom" to justify the expense of making it. The two-part conclusion on Sunday drew barely more than 4 million viewers.

The network's convention coverage also drew 16 percent fewer viewers than it did four years ago, the largest drop among the big three networks.

"Low ratings are not unexpected during political convention weeks," NBC spokesman Mike Nelson said. "We also didn't have high expectations for the repeat of a miniseries."

7. I remember the DNC Convention the year Big Dog was elected
Barbara Joyner was keynote speaker.

The theme of the convention was "Change".

She was a magnificent speaker.

9. If the nominee weren't guaranteed well in advance
conventions might be interesting to watch. I would have loved to watch the conventions of the 20's and 30's, where ballot after ballot was cast until a candidate was decided on. I think the 1924 Democratic convention reached a record of 104 ballots cast before finally picking a nominee.

Unfortunately, the nominee (John W. Davis) lost, so maybe it's better the way it is.
