White Rose Society Fundraising Appeal

Hey, folks!

Demand for White Rose shows has grown so quickly that I was forced today to spend $480 on additional hosting space for the new shows; "The Randi Rhodes Show" and "Enid Live with Enid Goldstein" as the demand had totally saturated my DSL line and I was finding it impossible to record shows and update the site.

Of course, I've been unemployed for some time, and this was a LOT of money to me in present circumstances.

Those of you who use the services of the White Rose archives, and who can afford to chip in, please consider doing so now. I would really appreciate it! Donations can be made via PayPal or Amazon Honor System via links on the site, or can be mailed to me. (Email me for my postal address if you need it.)

I could really use the help to keep White Rose growing!

I know the historical White Rose but isn't their a anti abortion group called white rose now?

4. What is the White Rose?

Well, as you know, the original White Rose Society was a German student resistance movement during WW-II. Most of those connected with it were beheaded or imprisoned by the Nazis.

I chose this name for my web effort to resist the New American Fascists (aka the GOP) because I have always greatly admired their bravery.

At the White Rose Society web page; http://www.WhiteRoseSociety.org/ I archive Liberal/Progressive talk shows from Mike Malloy, Peter Werbe, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, and Enid Goldstein. I archive 13 hours of liberal/progressive talk radio each day, and serve over 1500 people on a daily basis, tranferring well over 5 GB of data each day. Growth rate for access to the archives has been about 10% per month on an ongoing basis.

All files served on the White Rose are in MP3 format so that people can load them onto portable players, and not remain rooted to their computers.

Until there is again a fairness doctrine in broadcasting, Liberal/Progressive media must use all available methods to reach its audience, and I have made it my goal to get as many different Liberal voices as possible to the People.

16. The bugs...

...Most of the "bugs" recently were coming from how busy the machine was running the apache server at the same time as the recorders while all these things trying to use the same half-T1 rate DSL line. Six quarts in a four quart pail. The fix is what I did today; Real hosting.

thanks for doing that site. I only learned of it a month or so ago. I'll make a donation tonight.

I noticed that you recently added Enid Goldstein. I'm not familiar with her, and haven't had a chance to listen to any of her shows yet. I looked her up and saw that she was out of Denver. But, who is she? What does she stand for? What makes her a liberal or progressive? Thanks again.

15. Enid Goldstein...

Well, she runs an interesting talk show. She is a Liberal, and no matter what sort of topic she is working on, she usually gets around to some way to critique the Commander in Thief. Her show is not completely political, but her liberal politics informs the discussion at all times. I think she is a nice change of pace from the other shows I host where it is all politics all the time.

Well, given that he HAS archives I won't replicate them. I can tell you how to convert the files, but it is tedious! It requires you to play them with Windows Media Player, and then capture and compress the output audio with Audio Hijack Pro. This is how I record the three shows in my archive that are streamed as Windows Media. I have found NO other way to make the conversion. Of course, this means if two shows are streamed at the same time, I need to have two machines to do the recording. When I add a third show; a third machine! Microsoft does not make this easy, which is because they do not WANT it to be easy. Part of what they sell to people with a Windows Media streaming license is the inability of the end user to record the content.

I was just looking at Guy James' site, and his archives ARE in MP3 format! I have asked Guy if I can put them on my site. Even if I do have to record his shows, they are not conflicting with any other recordings, and so I do not have a machine-time conflict. And given that they are weekly shows, I should be able to squeeze them in someplace.

When I was last there, they were labeled MP3, but they are links that point to a MMS server.

The PC link ones use MMS, the Others use this say HTTP in the link (that's how they got it working for my Mac). But the content of the files:
