Please Help, # of Casualties is Classified , 8900+ Treated at Ger.Hospital
Recent , LBN article(s) I believe, had a quote from a Repub. about

the actual # of casualties being classified and it may have been

the same article quoting a source at the Army Hospital in Germany

claiming they have treated 8900+ soldiers (Severe cases get evac. to

Ger.)

I think it was in the past week.

Many thanks to all who can help. Even if you dont have a link would

you confirm that you also read these posts if you recall.

Thanks again DU.

1. haven't seen that info, but here is an article about wounded as of August
Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 11:22 AM by Skinner
Here is an article I found on the net about the injured. This explains why they are cramming the less seriously injured in barracks at Ft. Stewart, Georgia (and probably other bases) - they have filled the military hospitals to the brim with seriously injured service men and women.

"Wounded and Weary," Bill Berkowitz, August 31, 2003

In a summer dominated by the Bryant sex case, Arnold's debut in California's recall election and the killing of Saddam Hussein's sons, no hordes of television cameras await the planeloads of wounded soldiers being airlifted back to the states, unloaded at Andrews Air Force Base, and stuffed into wards at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and other facilities. We see few photos of them undergoing painful and protracted physical rehabilitation, few visuals of worried families waiting for news of their sons or daughters . The men and women injured in Iraq and Afghanistan have become the new disappeared.

The men and women injured in Iraq and Afghanistan have become the new disappeared.

Liz Swasey of the conservative media watchdog Media Research Center (MRC) confirms this perception. "There have been no feature news stories on television focusing on the wounded," she says. "While there have been numerous reports of soldiers getting wounded, there have been no interviews from hospital bedsides."

The numbers of soldiers wounded in action are hard to come by. Since the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Pentagon has put the figure at 827. But Lieutenant-Colonel Allen DeLane, the man in charge of airlifting the wounded into Andrews Air Force Base, recently mentioned much higher numbers in an interview with National Public Radio.

4. It was in the Armed Services Committee meeting.
The senators were outraged that the casualty numbers were being kept classified. While I believe that 8000 may have been evacuated from Iraq and Kuwait, that doesn't make them all casualties. People get sick, pregnant, break something, or freak out. They are sent to Germany.

I bet if you look around here, you'll find what you're looking for.

6. From early September...
Bush calls for ‘whatever is necessary’
MSNBC NEWS SERVICES
WASHINGTON, Sept. 7

Shortly after the speech, NBC’s Norah O’Donnell reported that a growing number of lawmakers, including Republicans, have lately expressed dismay at administration efforts to keep classified the number of U.S. casualties in Iraq. O’Donnell, speaking on MSNBC’s “Hardball With Chris Matthews,” said those casualties included more than 1,100 wounded in the conflict to date.

8. That link (which doesn't work) is an infamous "down the memoryhole...

Is the Bush Administration keeping casualty figures classified?

...

Note that by removing this news story, the following incriminating item has been taken from the public eye:

"Shortly after the speech, NBC’s Norah O’Donnell reported that a growing number of lawmakers, including Republicans, have lately expressed dismay at administration efforts to keep classified the number of U.S. casualties in Iraq."

Now that's something we haven't heard about before.

9. Here's an old MSNBC page that references the broken link
http://stacks.msnbc.com/news/962731.asp?0sl=-23

About half way down the page is a link to:

Bush calls for 'whatever is necessary' in Iraq

But it now takes you to the same broken link as above.
