Visits to Australia - Bush vs Clinton.....
I'm in Australia at the moment and the TV news in the last couple of days has been great.....Loads of coverage of Bush protests, intercut with footage of Clinton's visit....

Clinton was wandering through crowds of well-wishers, shaking hands, smiling, laughing, chatting....

The TV reporters were saying "Bush's visit is a far cry from the days of Clinton, who was warmly welcomed by the people of Australia and who was able to meet the people with no protests".

The press managed to find TWO people waving an American flag in support of Bush, and several thousand protesting against him.

It just stuns me that so many Americans can be behind this horse's arse of a man who spreads anger wherever he goes....

P.

1. That's fabulous!
If only we had that kind of news coverage in this country.

3. I am surprised
that no news media in the US has covered the protests outside on the streets - well away from the Shrub. It was pretty good footage and shows what a lot of people in Australia think about the man.

As an aside, they even had the main entrance of parliament house shielded from the protestors by a row of large potted trees. What is the man scared of ... the truth??

2. Wouldn't it be nice if our media reported this?
Such a contrast SHOULD be big news but for some reason the media here won't mention any of this....frustrating!

5. It stuns me too, but keep in mind the majority of people
didn't vote for him. You here for Rugby?

Anyway, just watching more interviews with Senator Brown, who is throwing shrub's comments on free speech back at the other MP's who are condemming Senator Brown. I love having someone outspoken in federal government. Someone, who when they speak I just find myself nodding in agreement. The US needs more of these kinds of representatives.

As to the POTUS security during his recent visit, well it seems the fear he is spreading around the world has increased his own paranoid feelings. Afraid of the Australian people, now that is just pitiful, their good folks down here (most just wanted to give him an earful).

6.  NPR--Morning edition did between five/ten minutes this AM
on various PacRim protests. played dumbo in Canberra, w/parliament members yelling at him........fairly detailed.

Olberman showed pix of it tonight, including monkeyboy insipidly grinning at the outburst

Headline story in Chicago Trib today on protests, w/above the fold picture of Muslim Indonesian women
