Iraq Temporary council Unanimously vetoes Turkish troops.

I hope this is not a dupe. I could not help but be touched by the reason that was stated as to why they refused Turkish troops.

‘Temporary Council Vetoes Turkish Troops’

Qairo, EGYPT, October 23, 2003 - Iraqi Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Leader Celal Talabani said yesterday the Iraqi Temporary Governing Council voted ‘unanimously’ against the deployment of troops from neighboring countries, including Turkey, in Iraq.

Talabani emphasized the decision was not taken in the name of ‘enmity towards Turkey’. He was speaking after contacts with Arab League Secretary-General Amr Musa in Egypt.

Talibani said Iraq did not need troops from neighboring countries as Iraq’s security should be provided by Iraqis, and not by foreign forces.

Thanking Turkey for the food supplies, Talabani said: “I will visit Turkey soon and have economic, trade and cultural talks to improve Iraqi-Turkish relations. We are neighbors. We have lived together. We will live with our Turkish brothers in peace.”

1. I think this is a case in which they value their lives...
more than making a proclamation of autonomy.

2. Hmm
It'll be interesting to see how that plays out, in light of the UN's recent rubber stamping of their authority.

3. Yeah, well the CPA can't have it both ways.
Either it's going to legitimize the Iraqi governing council and get its ass out of the way, Or it's going to have a puppet regime which has absolutely no power, other than to carry out the wishes of "Babyface Bremer", who at this moment probably has $0.5 billion dollars in an offshore un-numbered bank account.
