Lady Bird Johnson (still alive, must be near 100). Her pet project, which all First Ladies usually choose one kind or another, was the Highway Beautification program, which greatly reduced billboard pollution, and established the planting of flowers and trees in key places.

Sad that we can't recapture that ideal now in the age of crass overcommercialism.

As a lefty young teen, I was delighted when she flipped America the bird and married that rich, fat Greek whose last name will forever follow the Kennedy moniker and all it took was a measly $26 million in cash, a few van Goghs, and diamonds the size of a testicle. I find her the most intriquing woman of the 20th Century.
