CDC and Homeland Security: Illinois 'most prepared'
Just now listening to our local morning news, and the lead story was that in separate reports issued yesterday, both the Department of Homeland Security and the Centers for Disease Control have given the State of Illinois top honors in preparedness for dealing with both potential bio-terror attacks and 'other' types of large-scale terror attacks.

As deeply involved as we become in political discussions on all manner of various issues, especially mismanagement by the * administration, I've noticed that we seldom discuss successful efforts on the part of our various state and local governments to carry out one of their most basic functions--- keeping us safe and planning for catastrophic disasters, and the like; realistically, meaningful assistance from the Federal government in such situations would be 24-48 hours afterwards, while the primary response would come from state and local governments.

My hat is off to the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Illinois Department of Law Enforcement for doing their jobs better than anyone else in the nation. :toast:

3. knowing HS...
I wouldn't be surprised if IL actually scored the WORST, but since they spent all the money on color charts and duct tape, they thought they'd discourage terrorists by claiming otherwise.

How can we trust the boys that cried TERRA?

4. I don't trust HS...
I do, however, have confidence in the CDC and in Gov. Blagoevic, who has actually been addressing practical security issues, like protecting nuke plants, refineries, bridges, etc. . He's actually said that he despises the meme that only Republicans take security seriously and only *they* can be trusted to prtect us. Quite the motivator, for him..:)

7. Heh!
The reports were actually about things like being able to access and effectively distribute stockpiled pharmceuticals, and care for casualties, etc., but I appreciate the observation.
