Voter Tally Monitors: Find a way to have "Citizen Monitors of Votes"
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 05:53 PM by KoKo01
by having "volunteers" posted outside our polling places where we ask those who voted to write on a slip of paper who they voted for. If the person doesn't want to participate, we mark an "Undecided/Undeclared" and place the paper in the box.

We tally the votes from the voters who were "willing to participate" and include the "not willing to participate" and we announce it to our local "news media."

If we can't get the BBV and Corruption sorted out by "Election 2004" then can we do this as a "PROTEST!"

Could we do this? Could we get permission from our local Election Boards in our Individual States and Prescincts? Could we use this as a "Protest" or a "Monitor" of Exit Polls?

I'm very afraid about the 2004 Election......and I'm trying to think of ways we as "ordinary citizens" can have a voice if BBV gets ignored, or placed "on the back burner."

I could work on doing this....if anyone thinks this is a good idea?

On Edit: A volunteer with a large box and a "notepad of paper" asking those who voted to say who they voted for and slip it into the box. The monitor would place an "X" in the box for those who don't want to participate.

It would require a "Permit" from local "election officials" to get off the ground.

1. I think this is a very good idea.
At least it would give us an indication of what happens.

2. Why not conduct an exit poll?
That's kind of what you are doing.

Might get more participation, it's already usually allowed, and won't rankle voting officials over someone with "another" ballot box.

Nice idea but I wonder how many voters are going to stop do fill in a piece of paper vs. just telling an exit poller?

Might as places where they have Touch Screens to insure that the voter has an option of a paper ballot, BUT, that ballot cannot be treated as a provisional ballot. It MUST be counted with everyone else's.

3. I don't support this idea. I would support an exit polling company that

**hires** folks to do this. But I do *not* support taking Democratic activists away from driving folks to the polls and disseminating information about Democratic candidates.

I think that doing this on a *volunteer* basis is a bad idea and will cost us votes.

4. I don't know if we can get "organized" exit polling that's FAIR/UNBIASED

in place before 2004......I'm looking at an "alternative" and if we can get our candidates we've donated to....to support this..then, we could maybe get a movement going.

How many DU'ers do we have who could do this in our indivdual polling places? And, how could we get the "media" aware enough to focus on what we are doing.

We have enough "Liberal Web Sites" now, that this could get traction...in my mind..and the "THREAT" could be worse than our "little" effort?????

5. We need to do both
If we can hire someone or do it with volunteers, exiting polling must be done. I am sure both activities polling and getting out the vote can occur simultaneously.

BTW: In Florida and other states with sunshine laws they must allow every citizen access to the polls to vote and to OBSERVE, as long as you don't interfer with someone while they are voting. So I don't think they can stop people from being outside the polls, conducting this type of activity.

6. Let´s see, many election officials support BBV, I don´t think they´d be
likely to support this.

Even those who don´t support BBV might not support it.

It ¨creates a question about the recording of people´s vote.¨¨
