1. It's the middle innings...ya know...
I don't know about the analysts, researchers, data miners gone, but with respect to superb thinkers...I'm still here :)

Really I think that the roll up to the war and the war were special times...it turned a lot of us (including you) onto important projects...of which I expect your expertise on neocons to be applied to the move by conservatives to label them neo-Jacobins.

The Bush Nazi connection is now mainstreamed, as is the problem with electronic voting.

3. I've noticed something similar
although I haven't been on the boards long enough to really notice. But in the past few months I've seen a gradual deterioration of content, more sport scores posted, and less good intelligent discussions.
Not as much to :kick: Why do you think?

4. Ebb and Flow
In the beginning,EVERYONE was on the same page (except for the notorious "I hate the Greens because of what they did to Al Gore" threads) and we all had come out of hibernation at the same time.....there was a lot to learn.. We seemed to all be in the same groove because most of us (I think) were stunned and amazed at all the stuff we did not know..

Time has passed and we are more savvy now, and probably some of us , having learned a bit, have progressed beyond the daily "God I Hate GWB" threads and have moved in reality.. We have folks actually running for office, working on real campaigns, working elections, writing books, doing radio, tv interviews. etc.. Probably the ones who were the most politically awakened have moved beyond DU in their daily lives..

I, too miss coming back and seeing pages and pages of stuff I missed, but then since most of our posts are "news-driven", and we know the state of the "news", maybe even that reflects reality..

Burn-out is always a possibility too.. Sometimes it seems like we are beating our heads against the wall.. The "teflonicity" of this bunch, the timidity of the press, the stupidity of the "masses" and the nonchalance of our party can get to the best of us :)

Some may have taken a "sanity break", and will return after the primaries.. (I have personally taken a pass on any and all candidate-specific threads, since none of it really matters until we have ONE candidate, going head to empty head with *..)

5. I've noticed the difference
I've also noticed that many of the "regulars" are MIA.

W/Wellstone on my mind, I went searching for threads from a year ago last night. I was sad and had a good cry reliving October 25, 2002. Then began to feel sadder that some DUers from that time no longer post here.

The election season actually began back then. But in the last several months there's been a mean nastiness in the air. We've always had squabbles, but nothing like now.

It almost feels like a combination of Groundhog Day and The Night of the Long Knives.
