Breaking: Howard Beale enters the race....He's got my vote.
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 11:08 PM by TruthIsAll
Here is the speech he will be giving on Gore's new network:

I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody knows things are bad. It's depressing. Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job. The states don't have a nickel's worth; homeowners are going bust; our votes are stolen; the blacks are disenfranchised; soldiers are dying every day in Iraq for Bush oil and military no-bid contractors, Davis is recalled for the economic mess caused by the Bush economy and Enron price gouging.

There's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to it.

We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat. And we sit watching FOX while some local bimbo tells us that Bush's ratings are back on the rise and that he is going to raise over 200 million dollars and that he is still this "very popular war pRresident", as if that's the way it's supposed to be!

We all know things are bad -- worse than bad -- they're crazy. It's like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't look forward to the future any more. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we're living is getting smaller, and all we say is "Please, at least leave us alone in our own living rooms, you bastards. Let me have my cell-phone and my SUV and my high-definition TV, and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone."

Well, I'm not going to leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I want you to protest; I want you to e-mail Brokaw and Rather and tell them that by their silence and tefloning of Bush they are collaborators in concert with the neocon PNACers in creating a New American Fascist Century; I want you to write to your Congressman, and tell them that by not calling Bush on his lies is tantamount to treason. I don't know what to do about counting all the votes and getting that paper trail and bringing home the troops and prosecuting Diebold and impeaching the White House for outing Wilson's wife. All I know is that first, you've got to get mad. You've gotta say, "I'm a human being! My life has value!"

So, I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go the window, open it, and stick your head out and yell, "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!!"

2. Howard Beale
The nutty guy from the movie "Network." A firebrand preacher of outrage until ... we'll you'll just have to watch it.

Great film. Saw it a few weeks ago on CBC.

5. great movie; should be required watching in every j-school
Paddy Chaychefski (sp) wrote the novel, and you can see he was more than 30 years ahead of his time...I don't think we're that far from a future where televised deaths will be the huge ratings-getters

8. Agree
I'm still waiting to see the 500-channel satellite systems offer Execution TV...live feed for the execution chambers of all 50 states.
The most popular ones could even be put on par-per-view, and I betcha they'd sell like hotcakes. Jeez, freaking people are so gruesome sometimes...
They could even sell little switches to people and flash a signal on the screen when you are supposed to pull your switch, and thus give you the oh-so-satisfying sensation that it is in fact YOU who is pulling the switch on these executions.

Yes, Execution TV will be the next wave of the future. And it'll get HUGE ratings...

Hell, we could bring back the Electric chair special, just for Execution TV and call it "Who Wants To Be A Crispy Critter?"

I have no doubt you are correct in this. I have actually had this idea for about the last four years.

I'm betting, for example, if we ever got Osama...and were going to execute him...it would be the biggest pay-per-view event in the history of the world!

Why not? It allows people to take their frustrations out on something...hey, give the man with no job a little plastic switch, and let him believe HE is pulling the switch on all those people...tha'll keep him contented for a while...

Pathetic.

7. Now if only the FOX talking heads would say something like...
..."I ran out of bullshit."

Nahhh. Will never happen.

Network was a great movie.
