I just spent a half hour in a chat room with a bunch of fundies.
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 11:50 PM by Bleachers7
I was told that:

I hate God.
I don't have a job and sit at home collecting from the gov't.
I hate america.
I am unpatriotic.
It's OK that the gov't knows what books I am reading because I should prefer to be alive than dead.
The workers at ground Zero had masks so it doesn't matter that someone lied about the air quality.
Clinton lied about the air quality.
I sit home wating for hand outs.
I am a communist.
They laughed off the leaker.
I was told that dems want to take people's rights away. I pointed out the patriot act.

These are the highlights. I will post more as I remember them.

22. Jesus was a liberal...
He preached tolerance of all sorts of lowlife types and supported paying taxes. He fed the masses, providing them with food and wine. He also believed in free health care. And he didn't claim Second Amendment rights when the government came for him....

that's why i seriously believe these people are suffering from some kind of psychosis.

Similar to anorexics who look in the mirror and see a fat person.

These people read the gospels of Jesus and see Gordon Gecko.

17. LOL, I'd love to see what they'd make
of me!!
I am a transgender (male to female) cowgirl! LOL!!

Hell, I got into it last night with a self-righteous religious moron in a 24-hour diner!! By the time it was done, I'd managed to elict from him...

Gayness grosses him out

It's okay if you are a sinner (as long as it isn't a VISIBLE sin, like homosexuality or transgenderism)

The if I accepted Jesus into my life that the genetic condition causing my transgenderism would magically fix itself (I have Kleinfelter Syndrome.)

That it is impossible for any gay man to have accepted Jesus, because, if he had done so, and meant it...then he would have become heterosexual.

Thst breaking any of man's laws that Repukes LIKE is a sin against God (in this case, it was a bit of a discussion over marijuana.)

And, that I had but two choices, Heaven or Hell...and that only I could choose...yet his every word was judging me and condening me to Hell...so I fially told him that if Heaven meant spending eternity with 90% of so-called "Christians" I have encountered...and if Heaven meant spending eternity hanging around a bunch of assholes like him, then I'd RATHER go to Hell!

How can I be unpatriotic? I could never imagine being accused of such a thing. But I have been. It really worries me. I am worried for this country. These people are drones. They are machines that are programmed and they are on a mission.

35. Nothing original from the fundies
Amazing, isn't it? Straight-down-the-line talking points. Do they ever have an original thought in their head? What's with the Communist crap, anyway? Look at what calling people Communists did to Reagan.

As for so-called patriotism, my neighbors are really patriotic. One has a U.S. flag flying over his garbage cans, of all things. The other one had his flag flapping onto his roof, it got loose and now lies on top of his house like a used handkerchief; maybe it will blow into my yard and I can give it a proper burial, with due respect. Our post office flew a faded, ragged flag for months. Down the street, at a major business, the flag is so shredded that its stripes fly in separate ribbons. But they're patriotic, yes, sirree! Anybody else live in a town where the yellow ribbons have turned white from neglect?

But I digress. The main point is, all fundies have strings in their backs, and bushco gives it a little pull and the words spill out of their mouths in rote precision, with poor spelling and grammar and punctuation included. These are the people who, as little tykes, amused themselves by banging their heads against the wall, over and over and over.

38. The Fear of Fundies
One of the reasons Fundies (or anyone on the right) are so voracious in their beliefs, is they honestly fear the progressive agenda, whatever that it is. They fear that gays will be given permission to marry and chase their children through the halls of the elementary schools, women will be given abortions in the checkout lines at Wal-Mart, that they'll be forced to pray to Jesus under cover of their own roof, and by doing this bring down the wrath of God upon America killing them and thier loved ones.

I fear the rights agenda because I'll be forced to practice my spiritual beliefs in the dark of my own home, not by choice but by neccesity of not being burned at the stake, as a gay man I'll be forced back into my closet, that my inalienable right (and utter enjoyment) of pointing out the wrongs our government does will be quashed, injuring myself or my loved ones, and that anyone who isn't Christian and married with children will be reduced to second class citizenship.

As a side not... One thing that cracks me up... If the Fundies are so entrenched in thier belief they are chosen to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, then why the hell are they so afraid of death?

46. It doesn't matter if you know your bible
the fundies don't read the same version as the rest of us do anyway.

I posted on a local forum for two years before I came here. The majority of folks there were fundie freepers and whenever you back them into a corner they just shut down and get totally irrational. Now I thought I was especially suited for this type of work since I had gone through 12 years of catholic schooling and for me it is great sport to argue the bible with fundies but it is not possible to win an arguement with people who are irrational. All you can hope to do is make a dent in their psychies. Reprogramming these folks is a long and difficult process. But I do love it when they do that foaming at the mouth thing.

49. I know my bible and I really don't know
what bible the fundies get their ideas from, but they aren't from the teachings credited to Christ. Most of what is taught by Christian churches today come from the epistles of Paul, whose ideas where partially formed by the conditions of his times. He found nothing wrong with slavery or women as chattel and instead urged slaves to be obedient to their masters and women to their husbands. Jesus never said those things and many other things credited to him. Isn't it time to straighten these people out?

Now I usually don't have any problem with people with far out beliefs and their delusions, but these people are becoming dangerous and should be enlightened.

44. I've been through that
Neocons are a fun bunch. I was called both a Communist and a Nazi within a few short minutes--- which either means that my accusers don't know the difference or that I'm ideologically versatile.

FDR was called a "gimp," and as always, Clinton was called everything but a child of God. The neocons were screaming what a "failure" Clinton was, and how good it is to have Boosh as President. So, I decided to call their bluff and ask them point-blank: "Okay, how did Clinton fail? And what has Bush done that's so great? Please tell me; I really want to know."

I waited about ten minutes, and the only responses I got were, "At least Boosh isn't as bad as that rapist, cokehead, draft-dodger Clinton."

Yep, neocons are a fun bunch.

48. Harry Potter and fundies
I've had run-ins with fundies over Harry Potter

their objection to Harry Potter is that is deals with magic, witchcraft and they maintain that kids will imitate what they read and try to do "spells"

So if you accept the argument that kids imitate what they read and believe everything that they read as true....

then wouldn't it logically follow that kids reading the bible would try to raise the dead, or turn water into wine?

most fundies have fallen silent on this point, or retreat to the stand-by "....but that's different..."
