Patriot Act II: The Aftermath

I don't know if any of you have heard, but Asscroft wants to make the Patriot Act permanent and pass another piece of legislation called Patriot Act II.

In this new piece of legislation, it will:

1) First, he wants to give the Justice Department the authority to confiscate records and compel testimony without review by a court or grand jury.

2) Second, Bush wants to chip away at the right to bail. Current law allows a judge to deny bond for anyone shown to be dangerous or a flight risk. And, for anyone accused of international terrorism, there is a presumption against granting bond.

3) And third, Bush wants to expand the reach of the federal death penalty by making it applicable to "domestic terrorism."

Now, if Bush had his way, would you move to another country? I would be out the same day he signs it. I wouldn't entrust this president to guard my constitutional rights.

2. just found out we have a prisoner held two miles from my house..

in York County Jail. (York, Pa) He has been held for a total of 18 months without charges....he is an immigrant. He was held in NJ for several months then sent here.

It is incomprehensible to me that people are held without any charges and with no right to defend themselves. Does the 2001 Federal Law regarding the need to place charges in 6 months or set prisoners free not apply to immigrants?

I've got to do something about this. Just read it in our local paper and I am sickened. I guess they sent him to York Pa because there really isn't anything here (I just moved here from Maryland) ...quiet town with low literacy rates, lots of poor in the cities....nice place maybe to hide someone???? When I go to sleep at night now, I'm going to be thinking about this guy just blocks away...
