Dean just said he liked Bush as a governor.
Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 07:07 PM by IranianDemocrat
...on CSPAN.

:wtf:

Edit: For the record, I don't care, because RIGHT NOW he is extremely anti-Bush. I just want to point out that people's minds can change about certain things(Clark), so that doesn't mean that they're a neo-con or a "Rove plant."

3. I won't criticize
Just like Lieberman, Clark, Gebhart, Kerry and Edwards have all at one time or another made supportive statements of *. This is an election about ideas and agendas, not 15-30 second soundbite statements made years ago.

21. Well, I do live in Texas...
and can assure you that I HATED having him as governor. No disrespect to Dr. Dean, and I didn't see the interview, but Bush was a horrible governor.

5. I liked Bush as governor in the sense that
his damage was limited to one state, instead of the entire farking world. Maybe that's what Dean meant?

26. and that Texas had a week Gov, strong Lieutenent Gov
system. The damage was minimal, but through hook and crook he did get enough done that was nasty. Funeralgate, energy issues, pollution standards and (very carefully he adds, at risk of instant flame) concealed carry laws.

7. Shrub was the worst governor the state of Texas (or any state for that
matter) ever had. Is Dean nuts, he can't be serious. I'll suspend my judgement on this one. I can't believe the guy would say anything so blatantly crazy. And if he did, oh well.

and his long record in getting flame wars started.

I would ask for verification from a more reliable source.

14. there is blatant hypocrisy by this poster....
Your candidate, Clark, praised the Bush regime---and that I can forgive because he apparently didn't know what kind of a fiasco Iraq was going to be before he spoke at that fundraiser.

So what if Dean said he liked Bush AS governor? Bush was and is a very likeable person by the majority of Americans. Dean certainly doesn't like Bush now, and I'm willing to bet Clark doesn't.

17. Saying you thought Bush was ok in 1998 and heaping praise on him in 3/2003
Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 07:15 PM by Tinoire
are two totally different animals.

Sheesh. Clark supporters have me defending Dean now!

This isn't a good statement from Dean but it's far from lavish praise of the entire PNAC crowd and saying you would love to work with them again and/or that you wish them well because they can't afford to fail their important mission.

Clark March 2003 in Salon Interview after Bush's disastrous tax cuts, a war, a ruined economy and the attack on our civil rights:

Q "Of the people who are running this war, from Vice President Dick Cheney and Defense Secretary Don Rumsfeld and Powell on down, in terms of the political appointees, are there are any who you particularly like who you would work with again, hypothetically, in some ..." ((what's the understood word there? Administration???))

Clark:

A "I like all the people who are there. I've worked with them before. I was a White House Fellow in the Ford administration when Secretary Rumsfeld was White House chief of staff and later Secretary of Defense, and Dick Cheney was the deputy chief of staff at the White House and later the chief.

Paul Wolfowitz I've known for many, many years. Steve Hadley at the White House is an old friend. Doug Feith I worked with very intensively during the time we negotiated the Dayton Peace Agreement; he was representing the Bosnian Muslims then, along with Richard Perle. So I like these people a lot. They're not strangers. They're old colleagues. ((Awesome! The entire PNAC crowd!))

<snip>
But the views that President Bush espoused recently at the American Enterprise Institute, if his predecessor had espoused that view he'd have been hooted off the stage, laughed at, accused of being incredibly idealistic about the hard-nosed practical politics of the Middle East. So this is an administration that's moving in a certain direction, and now that that's the direction they've picked they've got to make it work. Like everybody else, I hope they'll be successful. It's too important; we can't afford to fail. ((WHO IS EVERYONE HERE??))

23. Without people like Molly Ivins
a lot of non-Texans would have known little about Bush except that he was a drunken frat-boy.

Thank you Molly for having been one of the first to sound the alarm bells for the nation- alarm bells that too many missed or refused to listen to!
