CBS REAGAN: 'I AM THE ANTI-CHRIST'

**Exclusive**

One shock scene in the final production script for CBS's upcoming telefilm THE REAGANS captures the former president declaring he is the anti-Christ, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal!

****

p. 209

During Iran-Contra Scandal --

INT. REAGANS'S BREAKFAST ROOM -- WHITE HOUSE -- MORNING

Reagan and Nancy sit in front of their breakfast. They can't eat. Can't drink. They're numb.

REAGAN: It's Armageddon... that's what it is. Armageddon. The Leader from the West will be revealed as the anti-Christ, and then God will strike him down. That's me. I am the anti-Christ.

NANCY: No, Ronnie...

REAGAN (overriding): And the Lord will strike down all of civilization, in order to make way for the new order... a new Heaven and a new Earth...

Nancy reaches out, grabs his hand, strongly.

NANCY: Hold on. You've got to hold on, Ronnie.

Reagan's eyes are filling with tears. He can't help it. He's crumbling.

REAGAN: I saved 77 lives in 7 years, Nancy... But I couldn't save those people in Lebanon.

Nancy gets up, puts her arms around him. She rocks him slowly, silently, back and forth.

****

Former first lady Nancy Reagan has reached out to Hollywood heavyweights, including Merv Griffin, to somehow stop the controversial movie, set for broadcast during the November Sweeps.

Developing...

MEANWHILE, back at the freak ranch..they're freaking out..

1. This is amusing.
While I don't think Ron was the anti-Christ it is an interesting twist on things after the coddling that Bush got in the lame Showtime movie.

3. At the time I worked with a woman who said he was the anti-Christ
it was the first time I had heard the term. It seemed possible, but I didn't quite buy it.

If there is such a thing, we all know the truth now.

6. This is a little over the top.
Reagan wasn't the antichrist...and I have a hard time believing he thought he was. If he even said it, it's a private moment of extreme guilt (perhaps unfounded, perhaps not) and I would love to know how the makers of this movie found out that he even said it.

There is just no way to know if it was like this. I worry about the use of this film as propaganda with nothing verifiable to back it up.

I don't want either the Right OR the Left wrongly skewing a person's life. Give me real proof, I'll sign on. If it's just "this would make a great story"...it offends me.

Ronnie may have really believed he was doing what was right. He doens't deserve to be branded as a demon from hell any more than he deserve every mountain in the US to be named after him. He was a man, not a god.

4. This is really in the CBS Movie? It sounds a little far-fetched, even for
me who couldn't stand Reagan and his policies. I can't picture him saying he will be seen as the "Anti-Christ."

At that time the Fundies were not so entrenched in Politics as they are now. I just don't see Reagan saying that , or even knowing what the "Anti-Christ is." It just wasn't in normal vocabulary when Reagan was President.

So, if CBS is protraying that as truth, I hope it's backed up by some famous Reagan biographer's work.....!

5. They are linking to the CBS feedback site. Hope CBS stands firm.
Lord help CBS. That is what happened here in Florida with the legislature voting on the Schiavo case. I know that they were totally bombarded by sites similar to this.

It never occurred to most of them that the majority here were against it. They never thought. They just gave in to the masses of calls and emails. 76% against their intervention. They just reacted to the mass of calls.

And this bunch criticizes groups like Move On??

7. There never was a negative movie about the Kennedys that the freeps
didn't love. They can dish it out, but they can't take it.
The mini series couldn't be any worse than the actual stories written by former Reagan appointees...the ones that weren't sent to jail, that is.
Nancy deserves her bit of unrest..she caused enough for others. She is a mean-spirited b.... and even her family knows it. I even think the Bushs may be behind getting this mini-series out there. They hate the Reagan and such a series would keep the failing Iraqi invasion out of the headlines. It already has in some areas. It gives the scum like Hannity, O'Reily, and others to divert attention away from Iraq and get the freepers riled up.

33. This one is brilliant:
It's beyond disgusting.
I cannot get over this childishness with these supposed grownups.
what is the matter with these people they have no shame ,no sense of decorumn, no respect for our leaders past and present.
they are tacky little spoiled children in grownup skin running around this country screaming, tearing thier hair and in a fury flinging themselves to the ground in mass temper tantrums and i want to personally yank their asses up and give all of them everyone of them the total butt whippings they all righteously deserve.
and to top it it off they make my nine yr olds look positivly mature.
Im off to find the tylenol now........

This woman throws a tantrum about the criticism of a President (of course it's not like the Freepers ever criticise Clinton, is it?) then really winds up her screaming and whining by accusing the movie's authors of throwing mass temper tantrums, and says she wants to give them all a "butt whipping"!

Finally she resorts to drugs, although she should probably try anti-psychotics rather than pain killers...

Hey "suzyq5558"! Grow up, imbecile!

40. criticism
no, it is no the criticism of Reagan, it is the total lies and slander that appear to take place in this film. and the difference between him and clinton is that bill is able to defend himself while Reagan lies sick and dying. he can't wag his finger in the face of the American people.

puts in a good showing for him though. I would say it yields equal power with the Hate-Clinton Cult.

There is no denying Reagan did some truly awful things. I hope he did lament at least some of them.

he's in a bad way? he is powerless?

Gee, so were a lot of good people during Reagan's terms. It's funny how the right wing hypocrites start crying out for good old fashioned liberal compassion and understanding whenever they can't handle things.

What goes around comes around. :)

MetroTrain, as I passed the Pentagoon stop with my protest sign..."bush* is a war criminal"....

and my response is: from Thomas Jefferson "Dissent is the HIGHEST form of Patriotism"....

then they say: but it's the pResident....don't you have respect? how can you dis-respect the pResident like that?

and I say: the pResident needs to respect OUR troops and WE THE PEOPLE of the United States of America....because bush* is NOT doing that today....

54. Interesting thought that the Bushies may be promoting
this movie from the sidelines.... Clearly Nancy hates Barb and I'd imagine the feeling is mutual. Nancy may have been a bitch, but she sees through Bush Senior and most certainly Bush the lesser. I imagine that's where the story really is....

BTW, who knows if the "anti-christ" statement is even in the movie (or the script for that matter). Who believes Drudge?

One poster says the writers should be able to prove every word spoken in the film is accurate. Why? Did Oliver Stone ensure every word in JFK was accurate? No, because it's the writer's interpretation of events. They're fucking morans over at FR aren't they.

20. Stone's historical movies are grossly offensive
for the very reason that they fictionalize real events. I found the JFK and Nixon concepts very offensive. These sorts of things can be historically accurate and still as sensational because there are historical facts that are fascinating.

Here is a list some stupid FReeper cooked up for the sake of Freeping CBS. It is incomplete, but I know these sponsors would love to hear that they are being spammed and scammed by right-wing troublemakers.

Please give them a call or drop them a line -- and tell them how you feel about the CBS role in presenting an unvarnished, balanced and refreshing view of the most overrated president of the 20th century, Ronald Reagan.

18. Well, unless this is accurate it is grossly unfair

Is there any evidence that he actually said something like "I am the anti-Christ"? It's pretty sick to put those words in the mouth of someone who can't defend himself. I'm no fan of Reagan or anything he did with respect to policy shifts, but this kind of attack is just disgusting. It is every bit as disgusting as the recent Bush 9/11 cable movie that tried to depict Bush as heroic. Now it would be fair to do this to Bush, who said nothing about that film and because he can answer back. If Reagan were still in possession of his senses this might be different, but historical movies should criticize when they have evidence. Same with praise.

they both practiced the "occult arts," consulting psychics, Tarot readings, etc. This is why Falwell supported Raygun over the one real Christian in the bunch, Jimmy Carter.

Raygun is not the anti-Christ, that role is reserved for Bush.

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX FRI OCT 24, 2003 09:42:38 ET XXXXX

CBS 'REAGAN' REVEALED: WATCH NANCY HIT DAUGHTER, SEE RONNIE CURSE

**Exclusive Details**

Former first lady Nancy Reagan has reached out to Hollywood heavyweights, including Merv Griffin, to somehow stop an upcoming CBS-TV movie about her life and times with Ronald Reagan.

A concerned legal department at CBS repeatedly called producers of the upcoming miniseries THE REAGANS, during filming, looking for assurances that shocking claims made in the telefilm could be backed up, productions sources tell the DRUDGE REPORT. Irritated producers reminded the network they had already cleared the script, with few notes!

THE REAGANS is now at the center of a media and political firestorm.

Insinuations that Nancy pill-popped are scattered throughout the story, as are repeated allegations that Ronald Reagan was homophobic, and was suffering from Alzheimer's disease as early as 1984.

Actress Judy Davis's portrayal of Nancy Reagan appears to be inspired by the Joan Crawford camp biopic MOMMIE DEAREST; wild mood swings, dramatic lighting, and tart-mouth insults are hysterically delivered by Davis.

One camp scene shows Nancy and Ron both standing nude when they first learn from NBC's John Chancellor they have won the election.

Pages 32, 33 of script:

INT. REAGANS' HOUSE -- PACIFIC PALISADES -- DAY

A FILM CREW is swarming all over the living room, setting up lights, cameras, etc. Reagan sits in the middle, putting on his own make-up.

INT. UPSTAIRS -- PATTI'S BEDROOM

Nancy arguing with Patti, (age 5), who won't come down.

NANCY: Come on, Patti. They're all set to go.

PATTI: No. I won't. I want to stay up here and play.

Nancy grits her teeth, and takes Patti by the wrist.

NANCY: No arguing. We're going down, right now.

PATTI: No! No! No! No! NO! NO!

Nancy reaches out, and slaps Patti. Patti reels, holding her cheek. Nancy

freezes.

*** Nancy is shown talking with her own mother in one flashback.

Page 16 of script:

NANCY'S STEP-FATHER: Nancy, I don't know what you see in Hollywood. As far as I can tell, it's nothing but Communists and drug addicts.

NANCY: It didn't used to be this bad -- did it, Mother?

NANCY'S MOTHER, EDITH: Hell, no. When I was here, it was just wall-to-wall Jews and queers.

****

President Reagan, played by James Brolin, is shown cursing his staff during one Oval Office meeting.

Pages. 152 of script:

REAGAN: "Rank amateur"! Who does that sonofabitch think he is? I'm the goddam President of the United States, I'm his boss!

Lawyers for CBS have growing concern that few of the most-intimate scenes created for THE REAGANS have much historical documentation or on-the-record witness corroboration.

Complicating matters is the film's charge that Reagan believed AIDS was biblical revenge -- as actor James Brolin finds his family in a real-life fight with the disease!

An immediate member of the Brolin/Streisand family is currently suffering from HIV, according to press reports.

During a scene in the film which his wife pleads with him to help people battling AIDS, Reagan says resolutely, "They that live in sin shall die in sin" and refuses to discuss the issue further.

Actor Brolin delivers the uncorroborated words with extra confidence.

In 1992, Streisand wrote an essay condemning Reagan over AIDS:

"I will never forgive my fellow actor Ronald Reagan for his refusal to even utter the word AIDS for seven years, and for blocking adequate funding for research and education, which could have saved hundreds of thousands of lives. Then came George Bush, once the moderate, who, in a Faustian bargain, allied himself with the same primitive, gay-bashing, immoral minority."

Streisand, who spent weeks on the set of THE REAGANS, did not return calls seeking comment.

38. Patti Davis was born in 1952
She would have been 28 when her dad was elected president, 14 when he was elected governor.

If they made up a 5 year old kid just so Nancy can slap her, that would be pretty grotesque.

PS - I watched Candid Camera a few days ago. I didn't know it was still on the air. Anyway, the skit was a free family photo. People came in with the ad and they explained to them that a family had to have at least two kids in it to be a family, and they happened to have a generic well-dressed kid that they could add to the family picture if you only had one kid. It was pretty funny because the moms had to say they didn't want this kid in their family photo at the same time as saying to the kid, how sweet he looked and what a nice kid he was.

Anyway that reminded me of this.

The producer wants Nancy to slap someone, but the kid's 28 years old (14?), so the director says, "bring in the fake kid for Nancy to slap."

60. if reagun/bush1 funded AIDS, scientists may have come up with
a cure for Alzeimers disease....research efforts in some areas often result in the extra benefit of cures for totally unrelated diseases...

oh well, it doesn't matter under the current bush*, because there is no money to cure diseases...all the money has been 'sucked out' of any government agency doing any good at all...and used to fund the bush* perpetual WARS....

28. Ok, hold on a minute... In the script Reagan is not quite claiming to be..
the Anti-Christ.

This is obviously meant to be a scene after the Beiruit bombing. What Reagan says is:

REAGAN: It's Armageddon... that's what it is. Armageddon. The Leader from the West will be revealed as the anti-Christ, and then God will strike him down. That's me. I am the anti-Christ.

In other words, he is saying that he thinks the bombing is a sign of Armageddon, and that the popular Fundie view is that the Anti-Christ would be revealed to be "The Leader From The West", and seeing as he considers himself to fit that bill, he is lamenting that he will be considered the Anti-Christ.

Personally, I think one of the reasons Clinton was so loathed is because he was perceived to fit the "Leader From The West" title, and the Fundies believed that made him the Anti-Christ.

To me, this portion of the script is more a commentary on the religious beliefs of Reagan and his followers, and that Reagan himself saw that a person in his position, the President of the United States, would be considered to be the Anti-Christ if the right string of events was to unwind during his tenure.

It is possible that this is a subtle indication that even Reagan lamented the power of the Fundies and their warped worldview, and recognised the dangers they presented.

Did you hear the clips Drudge played? If not, please go and listen to them. I don't know if they clips made it into the movie(its a montage), but it gives one a really good feel for the movie. Nancy sounds like Hillary(harsh, shrill, in-charge) and Ronald sounds like an idiot.I turned on the radio in the middle of that show, and at first I thought they were playing *made up* clips that they had concocted (with very amateur actors) in order to parody CBS's movie. It sounded like they were satirically exagerrating the sorts of things that the liberal media sometimes subtly does, for comedy value. Then later in the show I learned that they were REAL CLIPS from the CBS "biography". I about fell out of my chair.

35. The funniest part is, it makes Reagan sound as if he were feeling guilty
Try on a real Ronnie quote: "I guess in a way they are counter-revolutionary and God bless them for being that. And I guess that makes them contras and so it makes me a contra, too."

39. Anybody besides me think it's sleazy
to do an unflattering biopic about someone who's still alive and in the shape Reagan is in? I don't like him, either, but hey, let's kick a guy when he's down. I don't need to watch this movie to know he was deteriorating in office. It's sad and beyond mean to do this movie right now. Of course Mummy is going to try and put a stop to it. Sure, she probably has plenty of help, and maybe she hasn't been a model of compassion, and yes, she and Ronnie chose public life, but it doesn't make them fair game when he's dying. This movie creates more karmic debt than it pays.

57. Not really
Don't think it's intended to 'kick a guy when he's down'. It's a MOW. Think Long Island Lolita, or any other topic used for MOWs. Any topic can be "Jackie Collinsed". I doubt anyone watches this stuff for information. It's for entertainment. Something doesn't ring true about this section of script either. It just screams hoax to me.

TV does the same to other people not just the regans. They would "Jackie Collins" a story about Elizabeth Smart, Euthanasia, JFK, he's dead and can't defend himself at all, not that he would want to against something like this. Defending yourself against this stuff makes you seem petty and small. It's best ignored.

I think you are taking it much too seriously, and lending it more legitamacy than it deserves. Nothing is sacred. The more outrageous, the more publicity, the better for the ratings of mediocre (at best) entertainment. Best not to tune in if you don't like the topic. That's the best way to send a message about what you do and do not like about programming.

We are far enough out from his presidency, that the timing is right for people to start to look at him for potential story ideas, film and television material and books.

44. Geez, it's a move - believe it or not,
watch it or not - how many movies or books do you know about other president's and their families that are total hogwash. The one about bushie & 9/11 was total fabrication and the one the other night about Poppy bush. Don't know why the right is getting so upset. They are giving it more publicity than it ever would have gotten.

55. it's hard to believe this is the script
The dialogue is really stilted. Just a guess but it seems like a hoax. Just something to rile the base.

How about this

Ronnie: So, I'm the AntiChrist!

Nancy: Ronnie, stop

Ronnie: Those commie pinko leftwing...

Nancy: Calm down. Relax. I completely agree with you

Ronnie: Just look at the first ingredient on the bottle

Ronnie hands Nancy a Catsup bottle. She reads the label.

Nancy: I know. The first ingredient is tomatoes.

Ronnie: So of course Catsup is a vegatable.

Ronnie walks off muttering to himself.

Ronnie: They just don't understand me. No one understands me. Try to help, but no one gets it....

Well it's a first draft. It needs some help. Any suggestions?

63. mooseknuckle..
do you really believe drudge just reports the news? Was he really showing film clips of this 'anti-christ' thing? Drudge has said in interviews (heard him with my own ears, not just wishful thinking) that he never checks his stories for accuracy, never verifies that his sources are who they say they are, never questions someones motives for giving him a juicy bit of gossip, he simply puts out the version of a story he likes and then says it is up to his listeners (or readers) to determine whether it is true or not. He's one of those 'throw everything against the wall and eventually something's gotta stick' guys. I don't have time to wait for one of his 'news reports' to actually be verified. I laugh heartily when people call drudge a 'reporter'.
