Bush and Bremer on TV (live), talking about Iraq (9:29 am ET)
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 09:34 AM by VolcanoJen
Bush tells the media that the Iraqi insurgents love terror and hate freedom.

Bush: "They hate freedom. They love... (long pause) terror. The more free Iraqis become, the more desperate these killers will become, because they can't stand the thought of a free society. They love to create fear and chaos." Hmmm...

Bremer tells the media that a lot of "wonderful, wonderful" things are going on in Iraq, and that the media fails to report such "wonderful, wonderful" things. "The good days in Iraq far outnumber the bad days, and that's what we need to keep in perspective," he says.

Looking irritated, Bush is now being questioned about the California fires.

ON EDIT: WHOA! Bush just asked about turning over the 9/11 documents! He answered, "Those are very sensitive documents, and my attorney, Al Gonzalez, is working with the chairman. Thank you."

POOF... end of press briefing.

1. Did you hear Bremer say "its been a couple of rough days, but.."
"its been a couple of rough days, but things are going forward"?

W* really looked hungover.. couldn't remember basic two part questions. Scary.

Here's what we were supposed to get out of it:

"Terrorist hate freedom, and love hate. It really is that simple. Honest."

"California fires: Mean. Bad. Firey. Scary."

"Lots of wonderful, wonderful things are happening in Iraq."

"My attorney is thinking about maybe giving the 9/11 documents to the chairman of the commission. It's really not my decision to make. Honest."

:-)

11. He's defining the enemy for us
and the press doesn't dispute him but carries water for him.

Krugman said that if Bush said the world is flat, the headline would be "Shape of Earth; Views Differ". -They confuse objectivity with balance.

3. Yeah...sensitive...
...as in they'll expose his bright red ass. Why is it bright red? Because he's been getting spanked and savaged by the Saudis. Turn over the documents Bush!

4. And they smirk and laugh as they issue platitudes on "freedom" & "death"
Particulary disturbing to hear that damn dog & pony show today... the juxtaposition against the death & destruction of the last few hours in Baghdad alone is incomprehensible... how can they laugh?

6. He speaks to the world as though he were addressing a small child
A child he feels is incapable of understanding anything complex. And this passes for leadership. There are not words....

7. I just posted a dupe, but will add my comments and observations here:

Bremer is in town and so they decided to hold Press Conference for 5 minutes. He repeated his "terraists are there
wanting to kill, kill, kill anybody because the electricity is on and the oil is flowing, and people are finding work."
When reporter asked what was being done to prevent these attacks, he said "we are hardening targets, but these
people don't care, they are killers...that's what they know to do, it's what they want to do, and they will kill Iraqi's and
anyone who wants freedom."

The third or fourth reporter who got to ask a questions said: "Welcome Back, Mr. President!" Bush replied, "Well thank
you...glad that someone is glad to see me back and maybe I'll call on you first the next time!" Laughter broke out and
the camera panned showing Rummy laughing heartily!

One observation of mine:
When the cameras started flashing Bremer reached down and pulled his tie so it was sitting straight out rather than
sideways or crumbled near his belt. It was (it seemed to me) a "vanity gesture" that he was worried his picture
wouldn't show him as the "dandy" dresser he always seems to be. (remember he sends his suits to Kuwait to be
cleaned). I also observed that Bush's tie was straight out in front. Is this something new with men? Or, just these two
men. It made me wonder how they could be so concerned that their ties were in perfect formation when there was so
much carnage in Iraq last night.

8. Pathetic
They want to kill, kill, kill No kidding!

Anybody with half a brain would ask WHY they want to kill, kill, kill.

Does it (perchance) have anything to do with oppossing an occupying force? Does it (perchance) have anything to do with resisting a puppet government being established?

Again, we are presented with another simple-minded, arrogant, ethno-centric explanation which will get us ABSOLUTELY NOWEHRE in ending violence and hatred in the region.

These mf's are pathetic...........

12. So the more we're attacked the more it shows that we're winning
They hate freedom and love terror so they are only doing this because we are so successful.

13. This really cracked me up...
"we will find them and we will bring them to justice." Rings hollow to me and can't believe he used this line again. It sure is getting old and makes a fool out of him every time and yet he just keeps on keeping on.

16. "And my attorney, Al Gonzalez, is working with the chairman"
No doubt as readily as Gonzalez gave his testimony in the SCI Funeralgate atrocity...that is, he failed to give it twice, and then the case was settled out of court.
