"We Gave Peace a Chance-We Got 9/11!"
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 10:41 AM by liberalhistorian
This was one of the huge signs from the freepers greeting the DU contingent during Saturday's march in D.C.

My son and I were marching with AWD and MountainLaurel and when we turned a corner midway through the march and saw the counterprotesters, Jeff (AWD) had a good time ribbing them about their "huge" turnout (they had TWELVE at the most, when they'd threatened hundreds, if not thousands, lol!)

"Is that the best you can do?", he asked them. Then there were also the usual signs telling us to "Go Home, Commies", and "Go Away Suburban Stalinists!" Sheesh, after eighty years of deriding liberals and progressives and anyone else disagreeing with them in the slightest as commies and stalinists, you'd think their little freeper minds could be just a tad bit more original and come up with something better than that! It was hilarious, because the twelve or so of them looked pretty pathetic next to the one hundred thousand of us.

And the sheer hatefulness of their signs and catcalls was just amazing. It's one thing to see it in print on a message board, and quite another to actually see it in person. Of course, these ARE freepers we're talking about, so I suppose that's normal. JonnyBlitz had a sign made with Hey Freepers! next to a drawing of a hand flipping the bird. They REALLY didn't like that, lol!

One of my favorites, next to the chants of Impeach Bush!, Bush Lied, How Many Have Died?, and Bring the Troops Home!, was a group that kept chanting "Hey Bush, pull out, just like your father should have!" I had to explain that one to my 12-year-old son, who nearly fell to the ground laughing.

Also, while we were marching, a group from the top floor of one of the apartment buildings we were marching past unfurled a large banner that said "Bush Lied, We Should Fire Him!" Needless to say, the crowd was VERY happy to see that. Poor little Georgie, having to go out-of-town to Camp David for the weekend on one of his innumerable, endless vacations, so his poor little thin-skinned, vindictive, fascist feelings wouldn't be hurt! BOOO-HOOOO!

1. I saw that
I loved Jonny's sign, it was funny. They called us Stalinists I got a crack of that too, although I may be a red well I could be socialist I think not sure but I hate Stalin as much as I do Hitler. Communist yeah they have been calling us forever, be more creative ya losers :D. Jeff joked that there were more cops guarding the religious fantics who I have called jesus junkies than they were. All in all it was a great day. I was suprised to learn from Jonny and Zack that the infamous freeper local leader "Kristin" was a guy, me and Zack joked thats why he is a freeper because he got ridiciuled. They need theme music :D, "the freepers whats going on over there" heh.

5. Did you see how bored all the D.C. cops looked
everywhere they were? They knew we weren't going to cause any major trouble, and anyway, how many hundreds of times have they seen and heard all of this! I got a real kick out of that.

I think the freeps were a little disappointed that none of the marchers rose to their bait and confronted them; I think they were hoping for some kind of physical confrontation so they could then say "look how immature and hateful those libs really are"!

BTW, JK, it was really nice to finally meet you, as well as many other DUers! You didn't have to be quite so shy with us, though, lol! I sure wish my son and I could have gone to the gathering at ProlesUnited and Oaf of Office's hotel room, but we had a bus to catch. I did manage to take my son to see the Vietnam memorial, though, I thought that was particularly appropriate in light of the fact that we're now trying to keep another generation of soldiers from having their names on a future memorial.

10. I told you the other night I was quite a shy person
That was good you took him to the memorial, its always an experience for me it makes me think of the fallen, thats why I need to head over to Arlington Cemetery. I went to the gathering in the hotel, and had a good time. It was the beginning of the second part of my life yesterday. I am quite shy as I said, but just a thing Ive had for a while.

3. The Freeps managed a dozen?
That surprises me, but I think it still got me a winning ticket on the over-under. Some folks were talking about going as faux Freeps, and I figured that if a couple dozen evil DUers showed up with signs (free slogan to swipe: "W. Every Bit as Good a President as He was a Governor"), we'd swell their numbers to 30 or so.

Good job exercising your rights, liberalhistorian, and all DUers who made the march!

4. A Song for the Freepers
(To the Tune of "For What It's Worth"

There's a man with a sign over there,
it tells me that he's barely aware.
it's time we stopped children, what's that sound,
oh it's just another freeper clown...

18. Yes, we were right near those idiots.
Their leader just kept shouting through his bullhorn on and on and on, all fucking day long. People generally behaved themselves and ignored them, except for when the idiot went on and on about how God told Bush to invade Iraq and bring it to its knees so that the message of Christ could be brought to them and they could turn from their "evil" religion and accept and embrace the only true religion that keeps them from going to hell. A couple people finally had enough at that one and started yelling back "BULLSHIT!" Someone else added "BULLSHIT, YOU FUCKHEADS!"

I mean, can you believe that shit? Yeah, God told Bush to murder 10,000 plus civilians and hundreds of U.S. soldiers in order to bring the love of God and Christ to them! Yeah, sure. That sure as hell ain't how the God I know operates. The God I know wants to kick Shrub's ass!!!!!!!!!!

His speech was WONDERFUL at the rally, btw, and given that we were right by the stage I got to see him up close. That was a real treat, because I didn't know he was even going to be one of the speakers.

27. I think I went up against that idiot at the Atheist march in DC
He had the bullhorn and everything. I pulled the Luke 6:30 bomb(look it up)on him and he typically went hypocrit and would not give up the bullhorm. He claimed it was not his bullhorn to give. Nice dodge anyway.

25. Religion attracts fools
Its obvious that religion is evil and that is why it fits so well with the republikkkan agenda.

If there really was a god, there'd be no republikkkans.

That sounds more like a republican to me.

Jesus's words about tax collectors and prostitutes getting into heaven before the religious leaders of the day would make them squirm a bit.

And are those WEAPONS on the "Support President Bush, trust Jesus" sign? Eyew! :puke: Who distributes those? Perhaps at the local Blasphemers 'R' Us, where Ann Coulter, I believe, has an account.
