Claifornia Fires, Any DUers close? This is an example of how Clarks Civil

I hope that all Cali DUers are safe and smart with this thing. This fire looks big and nasty. I would love to hear any stories you might have?

Also, this is an example of how Clark's civil reserve could work. Volunteers could be called up to help in Cali for up to 6 months with pay.

I like your "with pay." I thought it was a stipend. In other words, lunch money.

But it's a nice thought, having them volunteer to bankrupt their families like that. btw, if they're killed in the fires, what's the compensation? If they're crippled for life? If they merely need years of rehabilitation? Get back to me on it.

Me, I favor a national conscription where every able-bodied person helps out this country for 18 months and no volunteer nonsense about it. It isn't the responsibility of other people to make this nation work, it's ours.

2. Volunteer is the key word. Danger is unlikely.

Let me help you with this. This is a double volunteer program. So, they only have to volunteer for the reserve if they WANT TO. Then they are ASKED to VOOLUNTEER in an emergency. They DO NOT have to go if they can't, don't want to, or whatever. The volunteers will not be fighting fires unless they are firefighters. They will be working on shelters and communications.

This statement is right and that's why this program works. It is OUR choice to get involved with this. BTW, the civil reserve will also work on parks and help kids learn how to read on a not for pay way. They are basically organizing the volunteers in a way that hasn't been done before.

3. Home lost

I just heard from my cousin in SanBernadino and he and his wife lost their home last night. His mother just passed away and he lost all of her pictures and belongings. Fires are such a terrible thing.

losing a parent, then a home... and then with the home the connections to the mother. I hope that in the end there will be at least a few salveables to be found from their home. Deepest concerns and best wishes to your cousins, and to all who have been tragically touched by this disaster.

4. Lots of people would volunteer, but where's the water?

The only people who can access water to put these fires out are the firemen, and they're already there in large numbers.

Sure, I'll stand out there with some wet sheets and come back looking like Yosemite Sam after the dynamite goes off in his hand.

5. The volunteers wouldn't be used for that.

They would be used to set up shelters, communications, and other things. They would be used for organization. Not for fire-fighting (unless they are firefighters).

6. In the line of fire

I live in Carlsbad, the fire is supposed to be contained in Vista today, which is just the next town over. Half of the town of Crest just outside of El Cajon burned to the ground last night. If the fire isn't contained there then things will REALLY get out of hand, El Cajon is just outside of San Diego. Damn Bush for pulling the National Guard out of the state, we could have used them!
