Running against Ashcroft
As I read through the debate transcripts, I can't help but notice that most of the candidates, at one point, mentioned John Ashcroft as an example of what's wrong with this administration.

I think this must be extremely gratifying to those of us here at D.U., who have been making that point for close to three years now.

But do you find it surprising that it's as popular a theme as it is? When Mondale ran against Reagan, did he relentlessly criticize Henry Kissinger? Did Dole go on and on about Janet Reno? Just because an administration figure is notorious doesn't make the campaign about him. But that was before the Patriot Act.

Basically: do you think the attacks on Ashcroft are reflective of the times, or is Ashcroft that much more polarizing a figure? Or am I just imagining the whole thing?

1. AshKKKroft is one of the worst AG's ever
he has blatantly attempted to dismantle the Bill of Rights, among a host of other atrocities.
