Do Bush supporters despise their children?
What will Bush supporters tell their children?

Background: I’m reading Molly Ivins “Bushwacked.” It is a seriously depressing look at real life in BushCo’s America made all the more painful because it focuses on real people. It details the daily BushCo assaults on every aspect of life.

Whether it’s relaxing (or ignoring) inspections so that shit is being mixed into your hamburger meat, or;
Allowing coal basin methane mining to destroy entire rivers, or;
Destroying the education system through mandatory testing, or;
Refusing to address massive toxic waste sites, or;

the list is endless.

Every BushCo appointment has been done to assure that corporations and their CEOs will benefit financially without an iota of responsibility.

Corporate whores and lobbyists rule. “Clear Skies” means increased pollution. The forests are protected by corporate logging in national forests.

Jobs are fleeing the country (along with any corporate tax revenues).

WHAT are these monsters leaving for the children?

What jobs will be left other than joining the privatized corporate armies of the RW?

Do Bush supporters simply despise their children?

I’m glad I don’t have children. I’m terrified for my nieces and nephews. There will be so little left of the country by the time they come of age. Will they even teach what America was before BushCo replaced democracy?

Carville’s words still resonate: WHAT WILL WE TELL THE CHILDREN?

above their country and their families. And the greatest ability the Greedy Old Pig party has is that they are so easily able to persuade their supporters to vote against their onw interests.

2. hmmm...
I honestly think that they feel they are helping their children. They think that if they can rape the environment to increase the profits of corporations, that they will have more money to leave to their kids. I really don't think that they even plan far beyond money and possessions. If you are rich enough, you won't have to breathe the same air as the poor. If you are rich enough you won't have to rich your kids in the military. If you are rich enough you don't have to worry about health care costs. If you are rich enough you don't have to worry about quality public education. If you are rich enough you can buy a future for your kids. The figure that GW's future was paid for with money, why shouldn't their kids get the same benefits.

5. the ultra rich might believe that

they'll be moving into their gated communities when the wealth transfer is complete and guillotines are rumbling through the streets.

i'm talking about the BASE who certainly aren't rich. your average freeper is not getting rich off W's crimes.

7. oh those people...
I think they just aren't thinking. I'd imagine that quite a few of them are issue voters. My uncle and father-in-law (both dirt-poor police officers) think they are Repugs because of the whole gun thing. They are so wrapped up in that issue that it doesn't even occur to them that it is the other things that might be killing their children. I'd have to say that the BASE is being fooled by whatever dogma the conservatives are playing them on. The religious ones are afraid of gays and non-Christians. The anti-government ones are hung up on guns. Yadda yadda. The neo-cons are really good at figuring out what the average Joe is dogmatically afraid of and then use that to scare them in to supporting something that is basically against their best interests. It is fear that causes them to hurt their children's futures.

6. and when they learn that their enemies
are REALLY the very people they've supported?

the people who send their children off to war
the people who allow tainted meat to kill their children
the people who allow corporations to poison the air and water

is a revolution against the corporate elite coming?

8. I don't think so
They believe the lies they are sold so completely that they blame their own misery on the people they are told to blame. It is all the "liberals: fault that their children go off to war, eat tainted meat, and that corporations to poison the air and water.

9. I spoke to my sister, a R, last night
She still supports *. I mentioned the Valerie Plame stuff and she told me she now does not read the paper or watch any news. :eyes: She says she does not have the time or energy to pay attention with work and family. This is an intelligent woman but she just refuses to pay attention.

So now, I guess this is my opening to provide the information.

11. I know what you mean
I was clueing in my mother-in-law and sister-in-law recently. Neither one of them bothers to keep up with current events and had no idea what was going on. They were pretty receptive to the information. After about an hour of filling them in, they were depressed and worried. I hate to do it, but they need to know.

I guess we all just have to get the message out there one person at a time.

15. Perhaps try this approach
let her know how time consuming it is to keep up, and that you understand - but that some really serious stuff is going down. Ask her just to keep her ears open - and to scribble down when she hears something on the news or else where that just doesn't quite sound right (just a bit off) but that she feels she doesn't know enough about it to be able to pick up on what is wrong. Tell her to drop you a line (email if she has it) or give you a call from time to time and pass on the things that she has heard that don't quite make sense (let her know that there is a heck of a lot of stuff going on that really doesn't make sense on the surface). Let her know that since you follow these things - that you would be willing to dig the info up for the background and write her a brief synopsis with links (or references if she isn't on line) to places where she can get more info. We - as a community - could help you flesh out the info/responses/summaries.

The point is to ask her to try to mentally key in on a point when she hears something that just doesn't quite make sense. They are counting on us being so busy that we over time get ennured to things that don't make a lot of sense and we forget about them. Getting people aware - takes first getting them to pay a little bit of attention.

17. I might try that
This was the first time she let me tell her anything political, ever. She usually just walks away or hangs up. She knows how liberal I am and she thinks because she is a Christian and her husband is involved in the military that she has to vote Republican. She actually listened to what I said about Plame and sounded very concerned. I'll see her at Thanksgiving and try again.

As an aside, my daughter last time blasted her cousin for using the term, "that is so gay." He really had no understanding of why that is such a horrible thing to say.

12. Many Republicans are "Christians"
by which I mean the type who never actually READ the bible
outside of the little snippets their daily guides or missals allow.
These are the ones who "walk by faith" although their Lord God gave them brains, and a conscience, and the wherewithal to use them.
Many of them figure that since God who so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son to die on a cross for their sins, then it is the least they can do to murder off their own offspring - or better yet, YOURS - as a token of their dedication.
Several have been known to cite the case of Abraham who was ready, willing and just about to sacrifice Isaac some time after he had cast out his first born son Ishmael (and Ishmael's mother Hagai) out into the wilderness to die.
The Bible-believing Christian is not going to allow ANYTHING to come between himself and his everlasting reward and you had all better starting getting used to that idea.

Tune in to some televangelist some day for an ENTIRE show.
In between the collections, they say some wild and wacky stuff and those who do not believe or who quote contradictory scripture are but sent by old You-know-who.

They are high on religion and they are looking forward to the rapture.

14. dogma, plain and simple
These are the same people who sport the "Not Perfect, Just Saved" and "In case of Rapture, this car will be unmanned" stickers. They really think that it doesn't matter how big of schumcks they are in life, becuse they were "SAVED" they are going to heaven. The whole mentality keeps them focused on the afterlife and not the here and now. If the world is screwed up, it doesn't matter because THEY are going to heaven anyway.

18. They think they love their childre but their children
don't love them. Anecdotal evidence - I belong to a group where many are hard ribbed Repugs (they are not fundies, but LOVE W), and some Dems. To a family - the Repugs have terrible relationships with their kids and the Dems have good ones. These are mostly well to do people.

Tho everyone has problems, the Repugs are worse - I think it is because their narrowness in politics plays out in other things as well. They get so hung up on "rules" they cannot see the real person emerging in their child.
