WHY WE HATE BUSH-wonderful op/ed by Ted Rall
I don't know if this has been posted anywhere else today. I looked for it but somehow this was missed. If you are not a fan of Rall, become one. He has on many occasions, hit the nail on the head regarding the stolen misadministration. This is one of his best.

First but not foremost, Bush's detractors despise him viscerally, as a man. Where working-class populists see him as a smug, effeminate frat boy who wouldn't recognize a hard day's work if it kicked him in his self-satisfied ass, intellectuals see a simian-faced idiot unqualified to mow his own lawn, much less lead the free world. Another group, which includes me, is more patronizing than spiteful. I feel sorry for the dude; he looks so pathetic, so out of his depth, out there under the klieg lights, squinting, searching for nouns and verbs, looking like he's been snatched from his bed and beamed in, and is still half asleep, not sure where he is. Each speech looks as if Bush had been beamed from his bed fast asleep. And he's willfully ignorant. On Fox News, Bush admits that he doesn't even read the newspaper: "I glance at the headlines just to kind of a flavor for what's moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read the news themselves." All these takes on Bush boil down to the same thing: The guy who holds the launch codes isn't smart enough to know that's he's stupid. And that's scary.

1. He doesn't read the paper? Ugh.
I didn't know that. Though, why it surprises me is, in itself, surprising.

I just can't imagine someone willingly passing up an activity that I so thoroughly enjoy every morning. And to think that the leader of the once-free-world makes no opinions of his own, apart from those fed to him like pablum from some child-sized spoon.

9. If you don't mind clicking on Fox, here is the transcript to the interview
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,98006,00.html

He talks about a great deal of nothing. It is a fascinating read, if only because it underscores his (lack of a) thought process. The part about Bush not reading the papers is pretty far down.

But wade through it all. It's fascinating.

21. It says it all, doesn't it:
BUSH: I appreciate people's opinions, but I'm more interested in news. And the best way to get the news is from objective sources. And the most objective sources I have are people on my staff who tell me what's happening in the world.

15. Same here...
it was at 4.08 when I gave it the 5.

I also got into the 1711 postings, and made it through two before I ran into a Reagan 'glowworm'. In brief, he was talking about Iran-Contra, and Reagan not knowing anything about it, (right).

I posted, that he either lied or was incompetent, in either case, he was unfit to be president.

Doubt if I'll go back to see if I get an answer. 1711 is a lot of posts. :eyes:

8. This was the one sentence that is a common thread amongst us all
Bush isn't president, but he plays one on TV. His presence in the White House is an affront to everything that this country stands for.

10. The man admits that he didn't even read the education bill that
he signed into law. If they told him it said that he'd get free beer, he'd probably believe it.

Now, with that kind of legislation, how does anybody believe that he would be bothered to read something as detailed and long (few pictures) as a 3 year study on terrorism?

"I'll wait for the pop-up version!"

12. Strange--
This op-ed appeared on Yahoo News more than a month ago (sept 25) (I thought it looked familiar, and sure enough, I had e-mailed it to myself and hubby to save it, because it was so good.

I wonder why Yahoo has it up on their news page again??

14. Do you remember during the run for the president someone asked Bush
what he reads. He paused (I thought it would be some philosophy or history or something deep) finally he pipes in "I read the newspaper!"

16. The closest bush comes to reading the paper...
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 10:03 PM by rasputin1952
is after Pickles spreads it on the floor so 'w' knows where to crap.

With any luck, he reads a few lines while he's squatting.
