Will Bush Try To Get Out Of a Presidential Debate?
The same way he gets out of live press conferences? "Sorry, too busy...got a $2000 corndog dinner I need to be at."

Or maybe use the same strategy Arnold did, by insisting on a pre-scripted format? Will he get the questions in advance?

Or: The media helps stack the deck. What's going to happen when Judy Woodruff opens her yap?

"Democrat(sic) Nominee: You've been accused of being a treasonous anti-american terrorist sympather who hates the troops, would you care to comment?"

"Mr. President: What's your favorite ice cream?"

1. The late date of the Pug convention...
...leaves less than two months in which to have the debates.

One month of negotiation on the details, then one month of spinning:

Why the arrangements weren't fair...
Why Junta Boy is too busy fighting the War on Terra...
Why Junta Boy is too tightly scheduled....

Junta Boy's handlers will just ride out the minor embarassment caused by the no-show.

"Look! Over there! It's Kobe Bryant!"

2. I could take a guess at how it might work
* will claim to be too busy with the 'war on terra' to appear for a debate, but will send Ari (as a consultant) or McMuffin in his stead. Then, the Faux talking porta potties will shriek that the dems set this up to steal time from *'s strategic plans to save the world, and furthermore if they were patriots, they would be doing more to support * in his endeavors instead of trying to distract him with meaningless political rhetoric.

4. The debates in 2000 hurt his campaign so badly
so of course he will not want to have any.

8. Yes.
And now that the american people have seen how bad he really is a debate would really hurt his campaign.

5. bush will get eaten alive in a debate...
and he knows it.

Theree will be plenty of excuses, but in the end, he'll have to do it.

And I can't wait. :bounce:

7. debate
Do you think he'll really be able to get away with it? I mean I think that would cost him at least five points, and it's looking like a closer race every day.

9. He'll debate
Who are we kidding? Bush will probably agree to 2, maybe 3 debates. He actually thinks that he has debating skills. Just a wee bit overconfident, me thinks.

10. The "Democrat Nominee" question might be fun...
if Wesley Clark gets the nod.

"General Clark, you've been accused of being a treasonous anti-American terrorist sympathizer who hates the troops, would you care to comment?"

General Clark pulls a plastic bottle out of his pocket, hands it to the reporter, and says, "Here. Go pee in this and bring it back to me."

11. The debates scare me
of course, done fairly any of the candidates would demolish *. What makes you think they would make it fair. They will stack the cards against our nominee. Do you really think that Reagan was smarter than Carter? All he had to do was bust out "there you go again". I guarantee the same from *. As a matter of fact, I fully expect to hear * call his opponent a socialist if not a traitor and terrorist.

12. He never has before. Why
would you think he would this time?

He debated Anne Richards and Al Gore three times. You think he is going to be scared of any of the current nine if he wasn't scared of Anne Richards in a debate?

14. This time, bu$h has a record that can be attacked
While he's undoubtedly proud of his accomplishments, his handlers are shitting BBs at the thought of him having to defend his record against Dean or Clark.

There will be no debates.
