Roll call vote: Kucinich supporters only!
Edited on Mon Oct-27-03 11:10 PM by Loyal
This is for Kucinich supporters only! Rank your current Democratic candidates in order of preference, from favorite to least favorite. Don't put Bush or Nader in your list! Obviously Kucinich would be #1 for all who post in this thread, as it does say Kucinich supporters only.

9. Now That You Mention It
No, actually. Iraq is such a clusterf**k, I think everyone is ABB in 2004. Even Ralph Nader.

Well, OK, maybe not Ralph Nader and his immediate family. But we've got, what, nearly 2,000 American casualties already? This is not a game.

20. Correctamundo!!
We are freaking PETRIFIED that you guys will go Green on our ass, and by doing so, you will offer "aid and comfort" to the REAL ENEMY...Bush!
By going Green, instead of uniting behind the effort to get Bush out, you will cause Bush to get re-elected, and he will tear further holes in the progess in environmental issues that have been made over the past 30 years.
would you rather have
A- A Democrat...ANY Democrat...even one not as Green as you may wish for
or would you rather have
B- Bush...who is a proven enemy of the very cause you claim is so dear to you?

Becuase if you do not support WHOEVER the Dem is...if you go off half-cocked and vote for a stupid freaking Green again...you will be handing another four years to the person most likely to tear further holes in the fabric of the progress of the issues you claim are so near and dear to you.
At least there is NO Dem candidate that will do that!

With the Dems, you may not get everything you want RIGHT NOW...but at least you will prevent future and further damage from being done to your cause.
Think about it.
And support Dean, Clark or Kerry. Those are the only three who got a snowball's chance!

I am not a fucking green, respect our right to choose a candiate, yes lets flee to the three we think we can win, why not choose a candiate of our choice. Christ, thank god you dont do my thinking for me. Actually as a liberal democrat Kucinich is closest to my views and you really fucking pissed me off.

and, NO, I am not going to answer the 10th poll/discussion about what we do if DK doesn't get the nomination. Sick of that negativism. The first primary has yet to be held.

The rest hold the bottom spots all together, all only marginally acceptable for various reasons.

8. Kucinich-(DUH!)-
Sharpton-(though I have about as much faith in him getting the nod as many do about Kucinich, and I have to say it's because the 2 are splitting support)

Edwards
CMB
Clark
Kerry

Frankly the rest in the race I can barely stomach. I should also say this list changes about three times a day right now. *LOL*

10. Kucinich
First, Kucinich obviously

Second, Sharpton. He's talking about the issues that the others are neglecting. Sure, he's got a sordid past, but so have a lot of other very great leaders. Don't count him out.

The rest of them don't really do anything for me. They're still trying to fight the battle on the GOP's terms, which is a surefire way to get the crap kicked out of you.

Kucinich's campaign is what brought me back to the Democratic Party. I like it here, and I really don't want to have to leave again. If we nominate some mushball centrist, I'll vote for him, but I sure as hell won't give him any of money and/or time.

14. These threads are discouraging
Why would I bother with a second best?
I've said before that I will support 8 out of 9 candidates after the nomination.
However, until that day I will support the candidate whose visions matches mine the closest. If the "democratic" process that we are stuck with determines that somebody other than Kucinich will get to carry the crown, then it becomes a different ballgame.

Kucinich is my man. All the way.

Kucinich is the one...don't have to go beyond that at this point.

I am keeping laser sharp focus on getting DK the nod...don't want to scatter the energy by making a choice I am not ready & hopefully will not have to make...
as the saying goes...I'll cross that bridge if & when I come to it!

Peace

89. I think these threads are interesting.
I'm a Kucinich supporter. I also feel a kinship with, not only all democrats-liberals-progressives, but particularly with Dean supporters. It's interesting for me to see what other Kucinich supporters would rank Dean second. It's interesting to extrapolate what common values that may reflect. It's interesting to look at all the people who rate Sharpton as their second choice. It's fun to wonder if they value the qualities in Dennis Kucinich that are similar to Sharpton's over the qualities that are similar to Dean's, or Edwards', etc. The primaries are about exploring and asserting values as individuals within a team. I'm not discouraged by threads like these at all.

18. Why Would Anyone Support
such an un-electable candidate as Kucinich?

In an ideal world, I'd LOVE to support Kucinich. Unfortunately, this is not an ideal world. And Kucinich is way too far left of mainstream to stand a snowflake's chance in HELL of getting the nomination...let alone defeating Bush...which should be ALL of our main goal.

That said...It looks to me as if our thee best chances of doing that are Dean, Clark, and Kerry.
I happen to be a Dean supporter myself...I could go along with Kerry, and I really don't trust Gen. Clark. He is not a lifelong Democrat.

THAT said...if Clark winds up with the nomination, I'd still hold my nose and vote for him, because, as I have said, our main objective should be to unseat Bush. And if Clark is the nominee, he is thus the most likely to send Bush to the unemployment line...where he has sent 3 million Americans!

Bottom line? I will vote in Nov '04 for whoever the nominee is for the Democratic Ticket. But I very highly doubt it will be Kucinich. Y'all DK supporters are dreaming. I personally like DK's very liberal politics...but I also know that in the real world of America 2004, it isn't gonna wash with the swing vote...and DK as nominee is a prescription for four more years of Bush....something I find intolerable.

THAT said...I like Dean because he shows anger and moral outrage at the sins of the Bush Administration...he plays the angry liberal very well, while appealing more to the center, to pick up the swing vote.
I am also an angry liberal, and this is why Dean appeals to me.

But, no matter what, come November, for me it is

ANYONE BUT BUSH!!!!

ABB 2004!!!

27. Agree
Believe me, you are not alone! I, too, feel under-represented by the Democratic Party. I am a transgender person, and I want someone who will come out publically, in support of anti-discrimination legislation inclusive of transgender people, and in favor of anti hate-crimes legislation.

Unfortunately, I also know that, to come out publically in support of such things in 2004 america...is tantamount to political suicide!

And, much that I like Kucinich's very liberal politics...i'm enough of a pragmatist to know that he don't stand a chance against Bush. And that is really all I want right now...I want Whistle-Ass out of office!

Thus, I support the guy I think is most likely to beat Whistle-Ass...who, by the way, is NOT the same guy that is closest to my own political ideology.

Kucinich wins that hands-down. but I'm a realist. and I'm terrified that many Kucinich supporters will either
A- Go Green on our ass
or
B- play the sore loser, and take their ball and go home, and not vote at all...rather than support a "less than satisfactory" Dem nominee.

As long as we are all on the ABB train to say, I'm cool.

So there you have it.
I WILL NEVER QUESTION ANY DK SUPPORTER WHO SWEARS BY ALL THEY HOLD DEAR THAT, SHOULD DK NOT GET THE NOMINATION, THEY WILL VOTE IN NOVEMBER '04 FOR WHOEVER THE DEM. NOMINEE TURNS OUT TO BE!!!

Is that okay by y'all?

85. Way to go, Mermaid!
After reading your earlier post "Why would anybody support K?" and the response to it, I was contemplating a response, but when I read this, you nailed every issue perfectly.

I would LOVE to see Kucinich become President, but when I wake up in the morning and realize that we have as much chance of having Paul Wellstone as President as Denis Kucinich I am willing to promote him and for the time being in order to push his IDEAS as far as they can go. But barring a miraculous groundswell of enthusiasm for him and his ideas, when it comes to casting our ballots in the primary, we MUST settle on the one most likely to beat whistle-ass!

The question isn't whom do WE like best, but whom do the voters as a whole like more than Bush.

I hear you.
I might be liberal, but I am not green. If the general consensus in the Democratic Party leaves no room for a candidate like Kucinich, then the time has come to start a third party.
With no regret I will say the Democratic Party farewell in exchange for something that I can actually believe in.

Hell, the DNC is just as corrupt as the GOP anyway.

Oh. And if and when we do, we will take Sharpton with us!!! ;)

I just don't believe he has the appeal to get the swing vote. He appeals to the further left elements of the party (like me.)

I'm just absolutely terrified that y'all will not get behind the nominee of the Dems. if it isn't Kucinich. and if that happens, we get stuck with four more years of Whistle-Ass.

I can't take another four years of Whistle-Ass.

I cannot take four more years of the fear factor from terrorists being ratcheted up to the nth degree...I cannot live under the level of fear Bush keeps ratcheting up...
I cannot live with the fear of the Patriot Act another four years
I cannot live with the fear of the possibility of a "one man one woman only" marriage Amendment to the Constitution.
I cannot live with being under siege from our leaders anymore!

I am transgender...and that makes me target Numero Uno for Bush and his butthole followers. And I do not think I will survive another four years of Bush. He will, at his first opportunity, open Concentartion Camps for people like me. No, I'm not foaming at the mouth here, I am TRULY TERRIFIED THAT HE WILL DO EXACTLY THAT!! This is not paranoia...it is gut-wrenching, agonizing fear and stark freaking terror!

I swear I'm more afraid of the Bush Administration than I am of ANY terrorist!

And I'm terrified by what I read and see with the hard-core Kucinich supporters...and I really feel they will abandon the ABB trian if their man don't get the nod. and that terrifies the hell outta me!

So, please...just tell me...your guy or someone else...come November '04 you will cast your vote for the Dem. nominee, whoever he may be...even if you do it only to cast a vote AGAINST Whistle-Ass! Please, okay??
I don't think I'd like Canada...it's too friggin' cold there...but if Bush gets four more years, I may end up heading there to save my very life! Because I truly believe Bush will actually try to round up and kill all gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people if he gets another four years!

Even if it's Sharpton. Even if it's SATAN.
This is how badly I fear Bush. I need him to go.

Following submitted for your reading pleasure...

-------------------
Bush is my shepherd, I am in want.
He maketh me to lie down on park benches.
He leadeth me besideth the still factories.
He restoreth my doubt in the Republican party.
He leadeth me in the party of destitution for his party's sake.

I fear evil for thou art with me.
The politicians and the profiteers they frighten me.
Thou preparest a reduction in my salary before me in the presence of mine enemies.
Thou anointest my income with State tax increases; my expenses runneth over.

Surely unemployment and poverty will follow me all the days of the Republican administration and I shall dwell in a mortgaged house for all the days of my life."

You can count me off your ABB wagon. I will only vote for a candidate who represents my views with some facsimile of sincerity.

If you're so terrified of Kucinich supporters hauling ass and not voting for whatever Wonder Bread candidate the Coporate Elite manages to push through, then try supporting a Progressive candidate for a change.

You're totally hysterical and insulting. I'll haul ass in a minute, leaving you behind in that putrid Swing-voter Centrist dust, if I feel like it and no I won't take your silly assed corporate America pledge designed to prepare people to accept just any ole thing.

You've been an inspiration to me since you've been here and you've done so much to make people aware of who Kucinich is and what he stands for. I've had to step back in awe at times, humbled.

Another thing is that you are a good friend of mine who's never done anything or been rude to anyone on this board. When you get upset at rude treatment, it may be silly but, I take it personally.

Still looking for my grand-mother's photo to share with you... She was quite a stunner ;)

First sorry to Kucinich supporters for busting in on their thread.

Who the hell is we? The paranoia appears to be yours and no one else's. Let these folks support who they want to support in the primaries. In the General Election most will support the nominee, and you can't say any more than that for the other candidates either. Do you believe that only you know how high the stakes are in the upcoming election?

57. I think you need to distinguish
between 'reality' and 'unsupported opinion'. You seem to confuse them.

The best ways--perhaps the only ways--to ensure that we DK supporters get behind the eventual nominee are (a) make sure DK is the nominee or (b) prove to us by a preponderance of the evidence (facts only, please) that some other candidate has a better set of policies and a more solid record of not selling out.

No one seems in the least willing to do (b) and in a way I can understand that, since I've already done that exercise myself and I would bet money that there is no such candidate.

Which seems to leave (a). If you want real, complete support for the Democratic nominee, then nominate a real, complete Democrat.

It shouldn't be a hard choice.

25. So much for Kucinich supporters only :)
I personally like DK's very liberal politics...but I also know that in the real world of America 2004, it isn't gonna wash with the swing vote

First of all, if you like his politics, then you should support them. Confusius say "The road to anywhere begins with the first step".

And speaking of Kung Fu, there are millions of voters who don't get off their chair because there is no one they can relate to. Kucinich' kung fu is strong. He just _might_ be the one to get these people of their butts, providing of course that they get a proper introduction to his ideas.

If your concept of the real world is as you describe, then we are saddled up with a fictitious democracy.

Can I ask, what was your first clue that we are, as you say, "saddled up with a fictitious democracy?" My first clue was the 2000 Florida fiasco.

If you are willing to delute your ideals for an odd-shaped office, then you are already a lost case. It puts you in the same corner as Republicans who wave the Florida debacle off because the end, after all, justifies the means.

Yes, it is this mentality that will push liberals towards the Green Party. You make it too obvious that the DNC is no longer home to us.

He knows what the American people are really up against, and he's not afraid to tell about it.

Kucinich would rather lose the nomination than lie to us. I respect that. Don't you think Kucinich knows that his "liberal" platform is not going to appeal to the brainwashed? Kucinich is a very experienced politician, an inner city streetfighting populist, who will do what needs to be done to really fix this country.

He's hoping enough Americans are going to figure it out, and elect him.

So am I. Why vote for less, when you can have the best?

58. Let me be the first to say...............FUCK KUCINICH!!!!
Edited on Tue Oct-28-03 06:23 AM by CShine
Liberal though I am, I do NOT support the idea that the United States should ABDICATE it's role as the primary power broker in the modern world. When I read Kucinich's platform I see a systematic attempt on his part to withdraw the United States from its position of uniquely crucial influence in international affairs. Basically, Dennis is a good guy, BUT he is ALSO an isolationist. I am of the liberal stripe that says liberals should be involved in the affairs of the entire world! Kucinich is definitely NOT that, and he will definitely NOT receive my vote for exactly that reason.

Kucinich is the liberal equivalent of Pat Buchanan. They both want to turn the United States into Denmark. Denmark has a long history of being stridently outspoken about its domestic issues and completely irrelevant in foreign policy. Buchanan says let's take the US and completely withdraw from world affairs so we can turn our country into a (supposedly) conservative paradise where we speak our minds on domestic issues and completely abandon our influence over the entire world. Kucinich says the exact same thing, only from the far left. He wants to turn us into a nation that care only about liberal DOMESTIC issues, and meanwhile, COMPLETELY withdraws from the big issues facing the world today. I do NOT want to turn the the United States into an isolationist Denmark, and I will never, EVER vote for candidate who has that vision. In my humble opinion, Kucinich and Buchanan both represent cowardly defeatist attitudes that come from completely opposite ends of the political spectrum. Either one of them would completely destroy the primacy of the United States in world affairs, and I will never, EVER support either one of them for exactly that reason!!!!!

I USED to like Dean until his people wouldn't shut up about this. WE like who we like, just like you. In the primaries, we CAN'T hand the election to bush. SO SHUT UP!

1. Kucinich

2. Draft Michael Moore.

3. Any of the other democrats...for the most part, Kerry/Dean/Edwards/Lieberman/Clark/Gephardt haven't impressed me with much of anything. They all slip in and out of my real second choice spot.

And besides I doubt they support the ban of mind control weapons in space which we all know is very important. (my other favorite dig at DK)

79. If not Kucinich, then a winner!
To me, Dean looks like a winner. (Yes, he is far more conservative than I would prefer.) However, in this election, I want the candidate most likely to beat shrub.

I am a social democrat and really like Kucinich. He is the best candidate I've seen since George McGovern. Sharpton and Braun would be my next choices in a normal election year, but the 2004 election is far from normal. Never before have I felt the need to put my idealism on the back burner. This election, I know I must be realistic.

I will vote for the Dem candidate no matter who it is for this reason. I believe that * would do so much damage to our country in another 4 years that I would not live to see the it recover. America may NEVER recover. The world my nieces, newphews, and former students will inherit will be scary beyond belief if Idiot Boy is reelcted.

2004 - Bush must go.

2008 - Time to become idealistic again.

Sorry for the negativity about my candidate choices, but these times call for realism.

83. Here is mine
1)Kucinich
2)Shapton
3)Dean

from here it is not so clear cut

I like Kerry but dislike his Iraq vote and often wonder why he isn't on the Senate floor block 80% of the Republican agenda

I like Edwards, he has to be about the most charamastic, but again he has the Iraq vote and imo he needs more seasoning yet.

I like Clark's interview in Rolling Stone and think he would be okay but I want to know more.

Gephardt has a decent past voting record but it seems he often gives in too often to the right wing.

Carol Mosley Braun is excellant but I doubt America is ready for a woman President.

Lieberman just sucks, I would consider voting third party if he is the choice but probably wouldn't.
