Newsweek cover: Waste Chaos and Cronyism: The Real Cost of Rebuilding Iraq
What Will Iraq Cost Bush?
Even administration insiders are starting to worry about how the war will affect the president’s re-election chances. In New Hampshire, the omens aren’t reassuring.
....
“This is the first time that I have seen a parallel to Vietnam,” McCain declared, “in terms of information that the administration is putting out versus the actual situation on the ground. I’m not saying the situation in Iraq now is as bad as Vietnam. But we have a problem in the Sunni Triangle and we should face up to it and tell the American people about it.” Also reminiscent of Vietnam, McCain said, was the administration’s reluctance to deploy forces with the urgency required for the quickest victory. “I think we can be OK, but time is not on our side... If we don’t succeed more rapidly, the challenges grow greater.”

1. Money is not a political issue.

I predict that this thread will not have very many posts.

Why is it that no liberal candidate addresses the apathy of voters that have heard it all before??? American military dying overseas? Who cares? We've heard it all before. Billions thrown down the drain? Who cares? We've heard it all before. Injustice in every goddam part of society? Who cares? We've heard it all before.

Why care when we have TV to fill us in on the details? If we hear 2 seconds of truth we get bored and switch right over to a rerun of "The Simpsons."

Is there any doubt why our culture is so royally fucked up?

2. There are few liberal 'candidates'...
...and representatives left. They've been marginalized and pushed to the back of the bus. The Democratic party is now under the control of the "NeoDems"...who are either hiding or in on the take.

- This article illustrates the differences between the TWO parties. If Clinton or Gore were in office...the GOPers would be on them like flies on stink. There would be ongoing investigations, hearings and calls for impeachment.

- RWing Republicans may be lying, cheating thieves...but at least they stand up and fight for what they believe.

3. Left v Right or Wimp v Non-wimp?
In the current situation, the Lib v Conservative axis is mostly meaningless. The current administration is about cronyism, incompetence, corruption and extremist ideology in equal parts.

Any citizen with an ounce of integrity has to be against these guys. Whether Conservative traditionalist or Liberal Dem. It just takes the guts to speak out.

The Dems didn't have the guts for too long a time. Now that * looks weak, the weak may come out and pile on.

The Newsweek cover is great. And important. Remember the Time cover of a few weeks ago? Bush on the carrier deck with the socks in his pants, overlaid with the legend: "Mission NOT accomplished."

This is the kind of stuff that will sink in to the minds of the average citizen.
