When did Bush pass from hubris to lunacy?

Mission Accomplished? The hundreds of recently created widows, orphans, and grieving parents that Bush policy is responsible for might debate that. Bring it on? They are, dumb ass. But those statements, incredible as they may seem, are just about what one might expect from a swaggering, jerk-off, pseudo-cowboy. However, not even Karl Rove can spin the latest Bush utterance into anything remotely resembling rational thought. According to Bush, the increasingly numerous, deadly, and well-planned attacks throughout Iraq "should be seen as a sign of progress". Holy mother of God! By that logic we can go ahead and declare total victory just as soon as the U.S. ground forces have been completely wiped out.
A vindictive fool with a tenuous grasp of reality has his finger on the nuclear trigger. I can only hope that those who have stated their intent to sit out the next election if the "wrong" Democratic candidate secures the nomination take that into account next November.

3. Does this strike anyone as eerily reminescent of Vietnam?

When LBJ and McNamara was always spinning the war in Vietnam? We were always winning, it seemed like. And, well....

Dammit. "Those who do not remember history are condemned to repeat it". I'm paraphrasing that truism, I know. Forgive me. But we never learn. And the families who lost loved ones in this stupid war are the ones who pay.

4. It's EXACTLY like Viet Nam

(well, except for the jungle part*). It's another country that we had no business entering in the first place, the locals resent (to put it mildly) our being there and we can't tell the Good Guys from the Bad Guys.

What first tipped me off to the fact that Iraq is another Viet Nam? When the Regime took pains to point out to us that "this is not another Viet Nam." Same old 1968 logic in the hands of 1968 Chickenhawks.

6. Am having serious Vietnam deja vu...

the anger, the sadness, the sense of helplessness re. those who held the power, as the war went on and on. There was often peer support, however. I just asked my daughter if she realized that "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (which can sound sappy) came out at a low point during that time, and that, at least for me, these feelings, and having hope, were what it was about.

5. It was never hubris or lunacy

George W. Bush simply doesn't give a crap about the lives of people who are not rich, powerful, and interested in helping him do whatever it is he's trying to do on any given day. I suspect it's a personality disorder - one of two I won't name because I'm not a psychologist. I'm not even very interested in psychology; I just happen to have lived with someone who did me some serious dirt and caused me to do some research. Once you know, it's easy to see and, well, if it walks like a duck. Find the criteria, read what others have written about Dubya, compare his behavior. Show me a single piece of evidence he has a conscience.
