So, Duncan Hunter thinks it's Davis fault that his house burned down
Nevermind that he moved into a gas tank when he bought there. Nevermind that a fire was already RAGING in San Bernardino and threatening home there when the San Diego fire broke. Nevermind that it was the Forest Services duty to request federal assistance. Nevermind that it was a hunter who set a fire to save himself that started the major blaze in San Diego.

Just a little more Republican personal responsibility.

1. holy crap he really said this?
With a straight face?!?! holy shit.

Anyways my thoughts are with you guys out there. We (my family) have friends near Laurel Canyon we are concerned about. We havent been in touch with them in a long time so we have no idea what is what. Just second hand info from a mutual friend. I kept thinking the past few days how irrelevent these non stop ANSWER threads in GD are in comparison to what is going on where you are at.

take care.

The moran jenius's are also blaming too many trees. Clinton invented sin and Eco-minded people invented fire in California.

5. It's a baby-step toward progress, NSMA...
At least he didn't blame it on Clinton's penis.

All though I'm sure he's working out the wording on that even as we type.

11. To the RW it goes without saying that Clinton's penis
is to blame for everything they don't like. So, yes, Clinton's penis is to blame for the San Diego fires. For example, if Clinton wouldn't have been getting head while talking to a Senator this fire would never have happened. Makes perfect sense to a RW'er.

7. Gee I don't know if it's true..where did you hear this?
But maybe over the weekend it was due to the fact that wind was too high for fized wing planes...I PERSONALLY SAW helicopters doing dumps over the Simi fire...where do you get your news?

12. Yepper
I also personally saw fixed wing aircraft fighting the fires. The local news media has repeatedly said that those fixed winged planes cannot fly when the smoke is too thick. I guess if they did anyway and crashed, that too would be Davis's fault. The fact of the matter is, Gray Davis was on the ball in requesting federal aid and disaster relief assistance. He didn't need to go and hold the hands of each firefighter. Those people know what they are doing. His job is to get the federal aid and to get the areas that are burned declared disaster areas. He did his job. I have no idea what these assholes are bitching about.

8. Could it be the 60mph winds?
Could it be the fact that the Santa Ana Winds blow up to 60mph? I don't know about you but I wouldn't pilot any plane with 0 visability and strong winds approaching 60mph.

9. Don't know....
I don't think the active Air Force, or the Air Guard have a aircraft for fighting fires at all. Those are specially modified aircraft, and I think they all belong to the Forest Service. In fact, I'm not sure the Forest Service has any either. As I recall, the deal is that the feds pay and annual fee to private contractors who own the modified aircraft, and then pay the contractors for the firefighting on an hourly basis for the aircraft and crews. As a pilot, 40-60 MPH winds in smoke ain't pretty. And given the crashes of firefighting aircraft in the past couple of years, they are probably a bit hesitant to risk the lives of those crews.

14. There's both
Well actually, Fed, State & BLM equipment as well as private contractor equipment. But the winds would most likely be the reason planes are grounded, like you say.

On a side note, the problem with just calling in masses of firefighters is management teams. Firefighters can't just spread out on their own, they have to be working within the overall plan of the management team. And there's only so many firefighters that can be deployed before you start having firefighters in the wrong areas, without enough communication with management, and have them end up dead. This is just a horrible situation and everybody is doing their best.

Guard called out in California
Troops headed toward fire areas

By ABC12/The Associated Press
(10/27/03)-- National Guard troops are being brought in to areas of San Bernardino, California where residents are being allowed to see the damage from one of the wildfires ravaging the region.

The fires have already destroyed more than 800 homes -- and about 30,000 are endangered. They are blamed for at least 13 deaths.

22. There's actually a law on this..........
that states that 'all private fire-fighting contractors' have to be used before the Air National Guard planes can be used. The Air Guard C-130's are being used now.

Not that the truth matters at all to conservative talk radio.....

15. I HATE THESE REPUBLICAN BASTARDS
I am so sick of their lies, their selfishness and their out and out disgusting juvenile behavior. Duncan Hunter voted AGAINST adding a bigger budget to buy more firefighting aircraft - I remember writing him a nasty letter years ago about this. THAT BASTARD GOT WHAT HE DESERVED. These selfish pricks don't want to spend money on anything, but then when something bad happens to THEM, oh, God, it's everyone ELSE'S FAULT.

They truly, deeply make me sick to live in San Diego.
