Repug Redux - Didn't Nixon run with part of his campaign as getting out of
VietNam?

And how long did it take for him to do so?

And now, W, who ran on the idea that we should not be the world's policeman, that we are not in the business of nation-building, is doing just that (mind you, after many years of Cheney doing business with Iraq, and Rumsfeld being buddy-buddy with Saddam, and Bush pulling out of Iraq conveniently 'bout a month before Saddam invaded Kuwait). Well, first it involved Nation-Destroying, then he invaded Iraq . . .

2. LBJ set the tone
"We Americans know-although others appear to forget-the risk of spreading conflict. We still seek no wider war." (On ordering retaliatory action against North Vietnam)

"They call upon us to supply American boys to do the job that Asian boys should do."

"Our numbers have increased in Vietnam because the aggression of others has increased in Vietnam. There is not, and there will not be, a mindless escalation."

"Presidents quickly realize that while a single act might destroy the world they live in, no one single decision can make life suddenly better or can turn history around for good."

Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908-73), 36th US President, Democrat

Vietnam ruined Johnson while enabling Nixon.
