Oliver North cleared but Christians duped

Get out your Bibles, everyone! Oliver North is swinging into town this November. He’s here to raise money for Canton Christian Heritage School and speak about Christian values. For those of you who are as confused as I am, I checked, and lying, drug running and illegally selling arms are not now, nor have they ever been, Christian values. I spoke with a representative from Christian Heritage, who informed me that Oliver North was cleared of all wrongdoing, so why was I making such a big deal? Well, first of all he wasn’t cleared of any wrongdoing — he was originally convicted. The conviction was later overturned by a couple of Reagan-appointed judges. How surprising.

I wonder when the Christians who follow the GOP will finally realize they are being duped and made to look more than a little ridiculous. Just because someone purports to be a Christian does not make him one; I learned that in Sunday school about 27 years ago. The Bible I grew up reading never mentioned anything about deceit, murder and drug trafficking. Oliver North’s own personal journal has notes he admitted to making about millions of funds earmarked for drugs. Try to put a Christian spin on that.

What’s next, Christian Heritage? A Manuel Noriega tent revival?
