While firefighters focus on containing the blazes rather than the detective work necessary to prosecute arsonists, many are wondering about a possible connection with terrorism.

In August, Australian authorities launched an investigation into reports al-Qaida planned to spark bushfires in a new wave of devastating terror attacks.

Every year during fire season or after a major fire this theory gets floated around. I'm as big a conspiracy theorist as the next person...

But I don't believe this. First of all why would Terrorists ("those who use terror as a weapon") use an attack that looks like a natural disaster and not take credit for it. And if Bin Ladin did put out a video claiming credit for it, it would be running 24/7 on the media.

Second with all the idiots here they don't need to. One of the Arizona fires was started by a lost hiker. Also in the middle of summer I still see smokers tossing cigarettes out their car windows.

At least two of the fires are arson related (one was a van with two white guys...so I suppose it could be right wing treehater terrorists)

Another was caused by a gun nut jackass that got lost in the woods and panicked when his trusty gun couldn't get him out (he forgot to take BOY SCOUT 101)
