Lieberman says something good!!!
Today was another banner day in George Bushs quest to bring honor and integrity to the White House," Lieberman said. "If he wanted to prove he has trouble leveling with the American people, mission accomplished."

He actually said something criticial of Bush, not another democrat. Go Holy Joe!

2. If he continues to make statements like this, we might be better off
with him in the race for a while (assuming he has no chance to win the nomination, of course!)

Obviously, if he dropped out, he could still make statements, but they'll get more press while he's running.

3. The only good thing he could say is

"I am joining Gush Shalom and going to Palestine tomorrow to smuggle penicillin in my shoes and whatever Yuri tells me would be helpful. Shalom, Salaam"

4. I'm no Lieberman fan
but even he is a quantum improvement over Bush on nearly every issue.

5. Which Bush "issue" didn't he vote for?
Since the wind started blowing from the right that is? This isn't a diss. Just idle curiousity and mild speculation on my part.

6. Lieberman Has A More Liberal Voting Record
than most other Dem candidates. Hawkish foreign policy and public moralizing, for all I deplore them, have often coexisted with a strong liberal platform on social and economic issues.

8. That's absolutely ridiculous and untrue
Name one other Democratic candidate who's more conservative than Lieberman.

7. I didn't say he was diametrically opposed to every "Bush issue"
(whatever those are).

According to www.aflcio.org

His environmental scorecard from 1997 - 2001 was 94%, which is second highest (behind Kerry) among the Dem candidates who served in Congress for those years. He is rated higher than Kucinich (my guy), Gebhardt and Edwards.

His labor rights scorecard is 81% lifetime, which is low among the Dem candidates, but is FAR higher than the Bush administration's which must be approaching zero.

His civil rights scorecard is 94%, which ties him with Edwards for second (again trailing Kerry).

In 9 animal rights votes, he voted 6 times in favor, once against and twice "no action" (I assume he missed the vote), this according to the Humane Society. That puts him behind Kucinich and Kerry, but ahead of the others.

In all these areas, he is FAR preferable to Bush.

9. Once again, not a diss, but I did qualify the question.
"Since the wind started blowing from the right." I put this about 2-3 months after selection 2000. Ol Joe is not alone in his opportunism, every Dem. candidate with an office on the "Hill" and a home in the surrounds has been licking boots since then. Joe has just been more consistent in war-mongering than the others, his ME policy in particular has been dismal.

14. he is hawkish, his support of Israel is very strong
I'm not a fan. I don't agree with him on several issues. But he was a hawk before the "weather changed," and since 9-11 has continued to show major differences with the Bush GOPNAC cabal.

The difference between even Lieberman and Bush is significant, especially on environmental and civil rights issues, two areas in which Lieberman is quite progressive, even compared to liberal Democrats or--gasp!--Nader.

Lieberman is far less progressive on healthcare than is my guy, Dennis Kucinich (who is the most progressive candidate on the issue since Clinton abandoned the issue in 1993), but one can hardly characterize Lieberman's position as "Republican." His record and his proposals are comparable to most of the other Democratic candidates, and even--gasp!--Nader.

Lieberman is also less progressive than my guy on economic issues, but again, he is hardly "Republican." Although more conservative than I'd prefer, his fiscal views can be characterized fairly as centrist. Bush, on the other hand, is fiscally far right. Lieberman has criticized Bush's policies consistently.

Lieberman and McCain sponsored the legislation that created the Congressional investigation into 9-11 and insisted, in the face of White House stonewalling, that it be fully funded. Hardly a "Bush vote."

If you are arguing that center is the same as right, then you are showing ignorance. If you are using secret code to focus specifically on the war powers vote prior to invasion or on approving the $87B, then just come out and say so. A legitimate debate can take place about the politics behind the opposition party's votes post-9-11. But to simply characterize Lieberman as a Bush clone or that he fundamentally changed his views since Bush seized power is inaccurate and ill serves anyone who is commited to improving the character of the occupant of the White House.

12. Quanta
Indeed; a quantum is the smallest possible increment. Rethug-lite would be a quantum improvement over Chimpy, but then again so would Cthulu.

About the only good think Rethug-lite could say would be "I resign..."

13. not precisely
quan·tum    (kwntm)
n. pl. quan·ta (-t)

1. A quantity or amount.
2. A specified portion.
3. Something that can be counted or measured.

The difference between even Lieberman and Bush is measurable.

16. It's about time, Joe!
If, in the future, you keep your focus on attacking *, rather than other Democrats, I may well forgive many of your past transgressions.
