Iraq = World War 2 Germany and Japan
Arrrrrrrgh! I think I have officially reached boiling point. Found another BS right wing column today. This one by Linda Chavez. All you need to read is the first couple of sentences.

It's a good thing the current crop of Democratic candidates weren't running for president in 1944. Instead of defeating Hitler and Tojo, we might have ended up with an "exit strategy" that saved American lives in the short run but cost us our freedom and way of life.

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/lindachavez/lc20031029.shtml

First of all, I see the paralells between Iraq and Germany/Japan. Germany was conquering Europe, Japan Asia, and the US was going to get choked out in the world market if we didn't stop them. Saddam had a weakened military with no chance of taking over the Middle East, especially with Israel right next door. It is also obvious that Saddam had even less military capability than we were lead to believe. Gee what great paralells. I am sure John Kerry would have appeased Hitler.

How does this SH*T even see the light of day?????? How can any intelligent person write a column based on this crap!!!!?!?!?!??!?! Perhaps the most important quesiton is, WHO IS BUYING THIS LINE OF BS!!!!!

3. What also gets me is
later in the article she pulls out the argument that we know Saddam had Chemical weapons because he used them on the Kurds and the Iranians. This is always meant to imply that Saddam had a full-blown weapons program at one point that was producing these chemical agents. The problem is, the weapons he used on the Kurds and Iranians were supplied to him by the Reagan Administration. What's worse is that Linda Chavez should know this, sicne she worked for Reagan. So she is blatantly distorting this. It is a really dishonest column.

2. The right wingers are all comparing Iraq to Germany now...
I ran out for lunch a few weeks back and sometimes listen to Limbaugh for a good laugh at lunchtime... the substitute (the guy in Southern California) that day spent the whole time comparing Iraq to Germany after WW2, saying how the Germans had some resistance and how it took X years for them to have elections and that US troops were there from 1945 and are still there now! (So, I guess the US can expect to be in Iraq circa 2060?)

Conveniently forgotten in there was that the US invasion of Iraq was a 6 week war, while WW2 went on for a good decade (or more, if you count the start as Japan's invasion of China...)... or, that Germany & Japan had aggressively set out to conquer the world and were actual dangers to the American Way of Life.

8. still there?
The US troops in Germany are there as guests. Welcome guests, but guests nonetheless. Germany gained full sovereignty in 1990; the long time of occupation is in way comparable to the Iraq situation. Neither for the soldiers nor for the occupied; not even for the other nations in the region.

There was this cold-war thingy, remember?

5. Read the article too
Commented on it at the website --> ( http://politicalcomment.blogspot.com )

I think some have decided that the best defense is to restate the rationales for invading in a louder voice.

As a Centrist Democrat, it also drives me nuts that she basically says that all the candidates would surrender. They've certainly all criticized the decietful and arrogant way we were led into this war (some more than others), but they've all said, unless im mistaken, that now that we are there we need to finish the job and leave the country better off.

I'm surprised its Linda Chavez though--although certainly she's a conservative and has written nonsense before, she's not traditionally been this far off the deep end.

Maybe she's having trouble sleeping.

7. What Chavez does here is actually part of an effective strategy. She is
NOT trying to make an argument that's really based on a valid reading of history. She's only trying to make one that SOUNDS like that, to those who have no understanding of history. And, when multiplied by the thousands of other RW shills doing the same thing, & controlling the media -- it is working.
