Well, with this one we can add one more line to the list of reasons Republicans hate academia. And it's not just Swathmore...check out yesterday's installment of the bIPlog (Berkeley Intellectual Property Blog):

<http://journalism.berkeley.edu/projects/biplog/archive/001372.html>

I particularly like the following line from the article posted on Why-War:

"The cease and desist orders are like a drug dealer saying 'Hey cop, give me back my crack.' It's an incredible tactical blunder..."

7. Support David Allen at Plan Nine, in any way you can.
Heck, Christmas is coming. Buy books from his site. His company will need all the consumer support it can get, because you know they will do everything they can to shut him down.

2. The old white farts don't get it
Bush doesn't even read a newspaper. I doubt anyone on his staff knows how to check their own e-mail. And now Diebold thinks that they can threaten the internet. LOL! These idiots are clueless what they're up against. It's out there, baby! I managed to DL an entire set of the docs before they were removed.

Maybe.

Maybe not.

And who knows what I'll do with them after they've sued everybody else? Maybe start the next round of publishing them. Maybe. If I had them, that is. Which I am not saying I do.

Fvcking idiots. Bring 'em on! This is our democracy we're talking about, not some Cher headline in the Enquirer.

4. Screw them
if they think that they can take over the Internet. The Internet belongs to NOBODY. I am not going to allow it to be regulated by some corrupt conglomorate.

Do you think Ashcroft will start to use the Patriot Act for Diebold? He has been using it for things other than its intended purpose.

5. Gee, if I didn't know any better I would think they had something to hide
But, remember, we must trust all corporations. They have your best interests in mind.

6. Keep the Issue Alive
I have followed this since I first ran across the security testing article from the professors at Johns Hopkins and Rice back in July of this year.

Working unofficially in the information security and information assurance field while also being a researcher and a political scientist by training and an advocate of open source solutions, this issue pushed all my buttons.

For the life of me I cannot understand why this is not a marquee issue for Democratic candidates. It's a no brainer! This is a direct and seemingly unimportant threat to the foundation of our democracy.

We need to make sure that this issue is kept alive. I've written several letters to my candidate and a Representative and Senator who have expressed interest in this topic to try and stress the importance of this both in practical and political terms.

Trying to explain this to Joe Sixpack is a pretty tough chore, however. I'm working on a way to do it, though.

That the national inquirer does a better job being the FBI and breaking news than any other media?!?!

THE FREAKING NATIONAL INQUIRER HAS MORE INFORMATION THAN THE FBI

AND MORE BREAKING NEWS THAN ANY OTHER MEDIA SOURCE!!

Goddamn America is one F*cked up place.
