Barbara Bush lunches and golfs on 9/11
This morning on C-Span a caller said
(I paraphrase) " I saw barbara bush on TV, and she said when 9/11 happened they (she and George I) were in the air returning from somewhere when all planes were forced to land. They had to land in in Minneapolis? or Milwaukee?. She said they had to stay at some "little motel" and wait it out.

The caller then said, " the little motel was the Embassy Suites owned by a Saudi. The went out and had lunch with friends and played a round of golf, and I have the photographs to prove it!"

What alternate universe is b. bush living in?

I watched this interview on Larry King, and that is what she said about the "little" motel. It sounded like they were in some ordinary place, watching TV until they could leave. She went on about how lucky they were to have Secret Service watching them all the time.

1. I think it was Milwaukee...
I'm in WI and this was one of the DLAs (Dreaded Local Angles) of 9/11.

I can't confirm the hotel, though.

2. Wow...I was on a business trip in DC.
I walked to my hotel in the Watergate and spent the whole day fighting back tears and watching the news.

4. Embassy Suites
is no big deal. It's not some place you'd expect to find an ex-President under normal circumstances.

9/11 was different in the rest of the country than it was on the east coast. I'm from Philadelphia, but I was in Yellowstone at the time. I continued my daily activities of sightseeing, as did most other people there. It's not like I was going to save anybody's life by being glued to the TV.

8. exactly. if I had their standard of living
I'd think hte Embassy Suites was a crappy little motel too. When you're used to staying in multiple thousand dollar a night suites in swank hotels, the Embassy Suites would be a let down.
