"Only intolerance can save this country."
I saw this message in someone's car window as I drove home. On the other side of the window was a message that read "suicide bombers = religion of peace?". It was apparently a wingnut, but a distressingly young one- I pegged him as being in his early 20's.

I live in Portland, Oregon for goodness sakes. I don't expect to see such intolerance while driving down the road.

I cannot truly believe that people believe such tripe. Has anyone else seen such overt displays?

1. Sounds like he's stuck on his car a quote...
From Tom Delay!x(

I'll never forget the (now wonderfully ironic) sticker on the car I saw outside a "Christian" bookstore (seriously; it was BEFORE his toubles with those little pills came to light):

"For a real rush...try Linbaugh!" :eyes:

B-)

I found that one particularly annoying.

4. I've noticed..............
a very troubling trend of young people being very intolerant. It disturbs me that for the first time that I can remember, college campuses are trending toward conservatives. We can make all sorts of guesses why this is occuring, but it does not bode well for the future of our country.

8. We are having the Pres. of the Tx. Christian Univ. Young Democrats speak
at a rally this weekend.

I will ask him what the prevailing attitude is there, admittedly a conservative university, but they (the univ.) did host a Jim Wright Symposium a few weeks ago, and had Gov. Richardson of N.M. as speaker.

9. the 'left' in the US has no vision to offer
A couple causes such as gay rights have vision and are committed to actualizing their dreams, and they continue to pick up momentum as a result.

But in general, and especially in economics, it's pretty much sacrilage to present an appealing vision in accordance with core leftist ideals such as feminism and public enterprise.

No vision = No adherents

12. you are absolutely correct. this deserves several threads..
....i probably sound like my own parents badmouthing the younger generation, but it seems young people "these days" feel entitled to espouse subtly or even blatantly racist opinions. In the guise of knocking 'political correctness,' a new right-wing version of political correctness has emerged.
i think the generations coming of age now are too young to remember the real impact of racism over the first 220 or so years of this naton's existence. They believe racism is a thing of the past and it needn't be mentioned any more.
same thing with women & feminism...a lot of young women aren't all that aware of discrimination. they have no friends who were mutilated by an amateur abortion or had an accusation of sexual assault rejected because they 'asked for it' or it was really no big deal.
i'm not sure what to do with it, but i guess my generation ought to be doing a better job of educating our younger peers....

5. Least favorite
"You Are Either With Us or with the Terrorists-George W. Bush" with a little elephant and donkey on it--of course the implication being that as Donkeys, we are with the terrorists.

Drove me nuts, so I bought on online to show people who didn't believe this mentality exists--along with something from the propoganda remix project.

10. Yep...we gotta destroy the country to save it!
Life(for those we like), Liberty (but only in small doses) and the Pursuit of (what I tell you is)Happiness!

Are we SURE humans are capable of self-governing?

11. Sounds like a comment from Nazi Germany
Thank God the Busheviks are, for the moment and for who knows how much longer, "kinder and gentler" than Granpa Prescott's Business Partners.

But when the time is right, that young Dittohead/Freeper/Brownshirt (though I repeat myself) will be ready to do whatever his Bushevik Masters tell him to, including behaving liek a Soviet or a Nazi.

Be ready. Don't be shocked when the other shoe, hell, the whole other shoestore, drops...

13. HOW ABOUT THIS ONE?????
Edited on Wed Oct-29-03 05:12 PM by Skittles
Spotted by a friend of a Dallas Morning News columnist, in a North Dallas department store parking lot:

TEXAS PERMIT 91101 / TERRORIST HUNTING PERMIT
NO BAG LIMIT / TAGGING NOT REQUIRED

Also on the same vehicle (Ford Contour) - NRA sticker and Confederate flag.
