Eschaton receives one of those letters today.
We Get Letters

JEFFREY J. UPTON

“Atrios”
Author and Publisher of “Eschaton” Weblog

Dear "Atrios":

This firm represents Donald L. Luskin, a Contributing Editor to National Review Online and author and host of Poorandstupid.com, among other activities. You recently linked to Mr. Luskin’s October 7, 2003, posting on his website entitled "Face To Face With Evil," in which he chronicles his attendance at a lecture and book signing presented by Paul Krugman. You chose the unfortunate caption "Diary of a Stalker" for your link. More importantly, your readers, in responding to your invitation to comment, have posted numerous libelous statements regarding Mr. Luskin. Picking up on the theme you introduced, several have made false assertions that Mr. Luskin has committed the crime of stalking. Such a statement constitutes libel per se, an actionable tort subjecting both the author and the publisher to liability for both actual and punitive damages. As a result of your control over and participation in the comment section of your site, as well as the fact that Mr. Luskin has personally brought these libelous comments to your attention already, you face personal liability for their distribution. Determining your identity for the purpose of making service of process can be easily accomplished through a subpoena to Blogspot.com.

2. Why do they hate America so much?
If they want One-Party Rule, shouldn't they move to China?

3. THEY ARE TRYING TO TAKE OVER THE INTERNET
That is the only thing I can come up with. This is free speech restriction at its worst.

I think the right-wingers have realized how much damage the internet has been doing. We have taken down DIEBOLD and serve as the primary modes of communication for liberals on the internet.

They want to stop us from organizing. Well fuck them. The Internet is the last bastion of truth for liberals.

They can just screw it.

7. Dear LS,
You make an excellent point.
For 10 months now, I have been trying to alert people to this very thing.
The next M$ operating system, which will probably come out late next year or early in 2005, will include radical new technology that will enable this to become a reality. Most people are unaware of this looming threat.
In my judgment, M$, as a commercial entity, has no real interest in trying to control access to the internet. Its interests lie in killing off competitors such as Linux. However - and here's the catch - since M$ is in bed with the feds, once the new OS is released, they can and will work in tandem to accomplish their goals. The government will be able to monitor and control use of the internet, and M$ will be able to actually prevent computers running non-M$ operating systems from getting online.
This will be presented to the public as a security issue. Dramatic improvements in the ability to block spam and viruses will be advertised heavily. Not to be advertised, though, are the other "security" features. They may be mentioned in at-length discussions of the new OS, where they will be treated as ways of tracking terrorists. What they won't tell you is that they can also be used to spy on citizens of the "wrong" political persuasion.
I urge you to research this online, and come to your own conclusions.

The Truth Squad is getting to Mr. Krugman.

Here is the link.
