3. Did you just fall off a turnip truck?
A better question would be: Why do the Simpsons carry Fox?

8. You misunderstood, he didn't imply you were "behind the times"
Falling off the turnip truck implies you're a brain damaged ignoramus.

13. You forgot to add
the "living in your parent's basement" bit. Now THAT would be a put-down of epic proportions!

Fox's right wing agenda ends where the profit begins. The Simpsons is profitable, therefore, they're allowed to say (pretty much) what they want.

Not to mention the way they denigrate my hometown with that hideous OC show. We are not all rich and white (though I'm halfway there)

10. It's a cash cow
Murdoch is not about to drop it unless he wants to piss off a few million fans and lose millions in profits.

Having said that, it seems to me The Simpsons pokes fun at everyone and everything in pop culture. Remember the Clinton jokes? Clinton is pulled out of bed by aliens: "What, is it noon already?" Clinton appears at the Simpsons' house. His last line is, "That's okay. I'm a lousy President."

Of course, they did say Dracula is a Republican, which I had never considered before--- but which makes perfect sense.

12. i guess
that the jokes about dems are funny to me because they are funny. somehow repubs dont have a sense of humor and i dont think they are quite so amused by them. but yeah, i guess they DO make fun of everyone.

14. Maybe the jokes about Dems are funnier
because they're easily shown to be false. We know Clinton wasn't a lazy president, and he certainly wasn't lousy (Bush II makes him look like FDR). The jokes about Republicans have an element of truth to them...

11. $$
That's why. Though it's also the prestige of having a show that has been on the air for 14 years. Many local WB and UPN stations carry Simposns reruns.

17. Rupert Stumbled Into It
While I'm no Simpsons expert (I leave that to my 16 year old son), I remember the show came from a segement of the Tracy Ullman Show...one of the very original programs when Murdoch launched Fox in the Mid 80's.

The story was at the time that many Hollywood producers and studios were boycotting Fox (fear of losing contracts to the other networks) or just didn't want to take the chance on yet another fourth network. James Brooks went against the grain and produced the Ullman Show for Fox and the Simpsons were supposed to be just a "drop-in" bit between bits. Maybe someone else is more familiar with this...more or less, two liberals...Brooks & Matt Groening virtually built Fox.

That's a major reason the "News Division" (more like diversion) backed down. The cynic in me says there was never a suit, just another stunt by Ailes & goons to stir up some interest/controversy (watch it be the topic on a bunch of Faux shows).

18. Wellllllll it seems that fox news is telling what the simpsons cant do
In the interview with the creator Matt Groening said that Fox news tried to stop a parody of its repulsive " news" network to the point of threating a lawsuit..but they told them to stick it and aired the ep anyway..NOW they say that the simpsons cant have a news ticker on the bottom saying viewrs would be confused with its " real " news network..Just goes to show that fox news panders and wants people so dumb that they cant tell the diffrence..I really hope groening shows whos really boss and fakes fun of fox news in every ep this season..But so much for that the simpsons dont have to listen to the suits thing

21. And the message to Fox News viewers is:
"You're too stupid to tell the difference between a cartoon and a news network."

Gee, what a surprise.

22. The Simpsons made Fox
Fox was Murdoch and Diller's snowball-chance-in-hell pipe dream that had little to entice potential affiliates until The Simpsons and Married With Children came along. Fox ditching The Simpsons would be like Disney firing Mickey.

26. the same reason they are a RW spin machine...
.... it makes them money. When it becomes profitable to tell the truth to the American people, they will be right there. Count on it, the media is not about idealogy, it is about money like damn near everything else in this country.
