1. Exactly ...
1 week after November 2004 if too-stupid-to-be-anything is re-elected.

6. Agreed
Either Bush and the rubber-stamp Congress will do it on the way out, or the Bush-lite Dem that makes it to the White House will do it ... but make us feel all warm and fuzzy about it.

11. Exactly.
I expect the Dems will stab us in the back on this one as well. Too many beltway secrets and too many ties to Israel.

3. Sorry to say, but they'll need alot more bodies if they want to
keep rolling into other countries after Poland- er- I mean Iraq. I'm sure they'd very much prefer to avoid it, since it would immediately create a populace with an acute interest in foreign policy. However, these guys have repeatedly demonstrated their complete disregard for public opinion.

If Bush wins, the draft will be back.

4. That would take enormous political courage
and that doesn't describe anyone in Washington D.C. in either party. I'm not trying to disparage some of the Democrat's service to their country in war (the Republicans don't have anyone in DC anymore who served in combat -- Powell was a desk officer in Nam), but when it comes to doing a difficult and unpopular thing, they are all pathetic. A draft would be hugely unpopular. No one could get re-elected in 06.

8. I agree
I doubt there will be a draft. But then, I didn't forsee 9/11 either, so anything's possible. But the chance of a draft is extremely remote at this point. Not only would it be politically unpopular, I'm not even sure the army would want the extra untrained people. They may have a deficit of personel and be in dire need of personel, but it is dire need of skilled personel. The modern, all volunteer, highly trained professional army we have is very different from the conscript army of Vietnam.

5. Bring'em On!!!!!!!!!!!!
WhoHooooooooo

Yeah, Baby!!!!!!!! Bring back the DRAFT!!!!!!!!

Just the humble opinion of one who burned his draft card in '69 and has so hoped future youngsters would some day have the chance to follow in my footsteps.

Kinda brings a whole new meaning to the phrase:

"The Torch has been passed to a New Generation"

9. It's either draft or withdraw. Guard units are devastated but
will be used as targets until the election is over.

Expect one or more terrorist attacks on US soil just before the election to stampede voters to elect AWOL and support a draft.

10. No draft reinstatement
IF the invasion of Iraq had been legitimate, IF there had been an imminent and provable threat to the US, the draft MIGHT have a chance of passage.

IF the Commander-And-Chimp and his crew had demonstrated the slightest bit of knowledge about how many troops the current mission required, where to deploy them, how to SUPPLY them (for Chrissakes) and how to deal intelligently with the population, the draft MIGHT have a chance of passage.

Even with the Media Filter, Joe Public knows deep in his flinty little heart that bu$h has basically FUBAR'd Iraq. And, as bought-and-paid-for as they are, Congress will lack the fortitude to go ahead with such an unpopular move as bringing back the draft.

Besides that, there are just too many of us still alive who remember Viet Nam.

12. Never happen I'd bet...

Why? because the draft during Vietnam is still fresh in the minds of people who had their kids killed. The rich, white, and well off stayed for years and years in college while the poor and blacks went off to get killed. If they didn't go to college they paid off the family doctor to write up a phony medical problem.

If they need the draft then bring it on!!!--NO exemptions of ANY kind. If your 19 then your drafted for two years--NO EXCEPTIONS.

Lets see how many of these 100 Senators vote for the next FUCKING OIL WAR when their kids of grandkids are the next ones in the crosshairs.
