Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D?) "bashes" Dean on Buch & Press
Another hysterical Democrat, but this time from New York. Yesterday she played chief sycophant to the administration on CSPAN and now she says, "I don't think Dean can beat Bush. Oops, I probably shouldn't have said that." They were asking her about GUN CONTROL and this is what slips out of her mouth?

Does anyone here live in her district? If Jan Schakowsky (IL-D) ever repeated any of this nonsense, people would be pounding on her door.

2. Who cares if she thinks he can beat Bush
Many Democrats said the same thing about Clinton. When the polls change as they already are - then everyone will change their tune.

It's not like she said something negative about him.

3. GODDAMNIT!
So many goddamned Dems still don't see what is going on!

Maybe she thinks she's trying to help Clark or Kerry, but she si hurting us all.

With friends like that, we might as well get ready for the Gulags.

8. So am I.
If she's a Kerry supporter, then let her say something positive about Kerry instead of negative about the Democratic front-runner.

If anyone in politics has EARNED the right to have a principled stance against the NRA and its suck ups it is Carolyn McCarthy.

Attack her for her principles, not politics.

17. Of course I'm going to attack her for her politics.
She wasn't playing principles and attacking Dean on guns, she was playing politics and then pretending like it just slipped out.

10. Because if your not part of the easily "duped" wing of the
Democratic party you're Bush-lite, you have no backbone, you don't stand up for your beliefs.

14. Bullshit! Read what alcuno said above
This is NOT about ideological purity (at least for me it isn't)!

You seriously can't tell the difference between tearing down and building up?

I would be happy with either Clark or Dean or Kerry as our nominee, and would work hard for any of them.

I am a centrist who is progun etc. etc. and I would no doubt fail the ideological litmus test that many DUers seem to pose.

You seem to think that accusations of have no backbone, you don't stand up for your beliefs is a rhetorical tool designed to bludgeon opponenets, and maybe it is used that way by some.

But stop and think, what if even half the people who say those things have no axe to grind and are just pissed that Dems keeping stepping into Repug traps as if the last 11 years never happened.

What else can I say? See alcuno's post above.

19. I love Clark and I'd vote for him. That's not my point.
These Democratic senators and representatives should be saying that they think ANY of the candidates can beat * instead of building up this myth of how it can't be done. If it can't be done then what's the point? I'll bash Lieberman from here and back on this forum for being unab;e to beat *, but I'd never say it on television or in the paper.

You are sick of people making snide remarks about people who make snide remarks?

How dare anyone complain about the legions piling on Dean, right? No snide remarks for those who bash Dean rather than cheering on their own choice, right?

5. The reason that elected officials endorse anyone
has nothing to do with their policies. They are hoping for a job in that person's administration if they get so far. Elected officials are not like DUers. They have their priorities. (Okay, MOST elected officials).

her husband was one of those shot on the railway in NY several years back and that is how she got into Congress - a Johnny One Note and she is taking it out on Dean's gun control stance

15. yeah, she is
And she ain't an awesome Democrat, but she's holding a Republican seat, and has done so, for a few years now. She's a solid Democrat.

I'm not going to knock her. Her husband and son were shot. One of them died.

She is a big gun control advocate and so am I.

If the gun issue keeps that seat for the Democrats, I'm all too happy to keep it that way. Hell, I support Kerry and so does she, why shouldn't I support her.

25. Amen.
She originally got in largely on the sympathy vote, but managed to keep the seat although she's been on the hit list for daring to be a Democrat in a Republican district.

Really, now, how dare she say anything but nice things aobut all the candidates. New York Democrats never squabble. Ever. Unheard of.

They never make comments aimed at their constituencies either. What a thought-- that they could worry more about what their voters and local party honchos think than what some primariy competitor's supporters think.

18. so adimently disagreeing with the NRA makes you a freak?
The gun-nuts who subscribe to the NRA's nonsense are the freaks. And the notion that more than 1 out of 50 of those nuts would support Dean in a general election is also nonsense

16. What's wrong with saying she doesn't think Dean can beat Bush
McCarthy is from Long Island. She got into politics when her husband was murdered on the Long Island Railroad by Colin Ferguson. She comes from a fairly conservative district but just because she doubts Dean's chances doesn't make her a DINO. Even a lot of Dean supporters have reservations whether he is the best candidate to beat Bush.

20. First of all, she was off topic. Second of all, she was disgraceful
yesterday on CSPAN. Third of all, Democratic LEADERSHIP in this country means you don't feed the Bush can't be beat mantra. You don't have to say every thought that pops into your pea sized brain.

21. Dean may not play as well in her urban district, but in rural districts
Edited on Thu Oct-30-03 07:15 PM by w4rma
Dean will do much much better than she says she thinks parially because of his moderate stance on gun regulations and... well.. just about everything else.

Some Dems don't seem to want to connect to rural areas of the United States, IMHO. Dean most definitely is connecting in rural areas.
