I believe that John Kasisch (spelling?) was also a candidate in 2000.

Repubs in 1996 also included Richard Lugar, Robert Dornan, Alan Keyes, Phil Gramm, and Lamar Alexander...I believe that there were still more though.

Repubs in '88 included Bob Dole, Bush Sr., Pat Robertson, Haig, and DuPont

Dems in 1992 were Clinton, Harkin, Bob Kerrey,Jerry Brown, and Tsongas

Dems in '88 were Dukakis, Gephardt, Simon, Jesse Jackson, Al Gore

Dems in '84 were Mondale, Hart, John Glenn, Jesse Jackson, Ruben Askew, and Alan Cranston

I was young during all of these election periods, so there are probably some that I am missing.

the fellow who was Secretary of the Interior under Clinton. Wish I could remember his name. I even met him at a fundraiser for David Wu (D-Oregon).On edit: It was Bruce Babbitt.

There was someone else, too, because the media kept referring to the Dem candidates as "The Seven Dwarfs."

1996 was Pat Buchanan, Dole, Forbes, Alexander, Gramm, Keyes, Lugar and a bunch of also-rans.

2000 was Alexander, Bauer, Berry (early), Buchanan, Libby Dole, Dornan, Forbes, Hatch, Kasich, Keyes, McCain, Quayle, Smith (early), Thompson (early) and a bunch of also-rans.

I think the original post was referring to how many regular folks could name the Republican candidates back in 1996 and 2000. We know this stuff because we're political junkies. I doubt the average Joe on the street knows it.

There was also Morry Taylor, an uber-rich CEO from Michigan (I believe), and B-1 Bob Dornan to round out the field of major contendors.

I just finished reading "Losers: The road to everywhere but the White House" by Michael Lewis. A funny read about the 96 republican primary and election process.
