50. Hartford CT area...
We have an afternoon guy on WTIC AM 1080 by the name of Colin McEnroe that is pretty knowledgeable and also has a very good sense of humor, plus he is fairly liberal - though, I would not call him far left. He's pretty good from 3-6 on weekdays following Rush from noon-3.

It's a pretty powerful station, so you can pick it up from a distance...

10. Yeah.
He used to be a conservative until about a year ago. I have no idea why he has moved to the left. I suspect it might have something to do with the fact that he wanted to run for governor of ND and the incumbent is a Repub.

the good thing is what he said about giving voice to the dems.
if that's all we get, then that's still good.

33. rather than try to get him on...
you should try to get a real liberal on. Randi Rhodes is trying to get her show syndicated. She's also on a clear channel station. She sure as hell would be able to tell somebody what the difference is between liberman and dean...she's not a republican in democratic clothing. Here's some information on getting her syndecated:http://therandirhodesshow.com/iwantmyrandi.html

Is he for gun control?
Was he for the Iraq war?

I want to listen to more from this guy.

However, I think he needs a better understanding of the issues. He didn't really know about the DIEBOLD thing.

26. All about Ed Schultz, live from Fargo ND!
Ed has been a fixture on local talk radio in Fargo for quite a while. He did the local college sports, tried to get the radio announcer gig for the MN Vikings, and has had a foksy, every-guy call in show in the mid-morning time slot forever.

He was dyed-in-the-wool GOP when I first got here. I called him once in a fury the day before the 2000 election, when--under cover of news--he did a two hour remote from the state GOP pre-election rally. I actually thought of filing an FCC complaint, since it was so transparently a boosterish, radio remote. Advertising, in a word. Free to the GOP.

He had a falling out with the state GOP, and has come over to the Dems. He even hosted a reception for the "Century Club" ($100+ givers to the state party) as his home a few months back.

He is not a Liberal's Liberal. He is an avid sportsman and would be very anti-gun control. He was supportive of the war. He is, in every sense, the poster child for the souther/midwestern moderate Dem.

He reminds me ideologically of Chris Matthews. He's more interested in a good controversy than anything else.

He's probably about the best Clear Channel could managed to keep the regulators at bay.

I believe he is, at heart, a populist. He wants to stick up for the little guy. Its hard to be GOP and do that.

The caller who pointed out he doesn't know that much about Diebold, for example, is probably correct. He's got a big step to make to move up from parochial concerns to national concerns, and he's going to need a staff of the sort the right wingers have to keep him informed.

I've mostly been away from the board, but would hope that the woman with the PR agency, and people like myself (former Hill press flack and journalist) can possibly step up and help brief him on progressive matters.

39. Maybe.
But it becomes very tiresome in a short period of time. I think you can have a successful talk show without being an arrogant jackass. That's one of the reasons I quit listening to him last year. It wasn't so much his then-conservatism, it was that he couldn't stop talking about how great he is.

47. I wouldn't be so critical
of this guy. He said he was not going to have an "all politics" show. He is someone Senator Bryon Dorgen thinks might be able to get into national broadcasting so the other side can be heard. Ed Schultz said over and over that this is about having a "debate". If he's a blowhard - fine. That's was Limbaugh is. Schultz is supposed to be our attack dog. This guy is NOT running for president. I thought he was great, and I'm going to e-mail Senator Dorgan and thank him for pushing this guy.

51. Before you thank anybody
you should know that Schultz probably isn't going to be "our attack dog." I don't believe that he's made a full conversion from conservative to liberal, and I don't trust his motives. He said on C-SPAN that he was a conservative Repub until 1998. I was listening to his show regularly last year and he was still pretty conservative. He may be a registered Dem now, I don't know for sure, but I think he's more of a moderate than a liberal. And I think the only way he's going to get more liberal is if he decides it pays well. Right now, he can't afford to go too far to the left because his ND-area audience is very conservative.
