Howard Govt. (Australia) - watch out for the Greens - they're NAZIS !!!

No folks, I'm not kidding. Via one of his senior senators, John Howard's 'Liberal Party' government is trying to assert that the Greens are Hitler-inspired fascists.

You'll be hearing more of this bizarre argument over the coming weeks, but even Murdoch's papers can't believe what they're hearing:

The Liberal was tearing into Green Senators Bob Brown and Kerry Nettle over their behaviour during George W. Bush's visit. While their behaviour was bad, Brandis's speech was worse.


It is time people in public life stopped introducing the poisonous memory of Nazis and the Holocaust into Australian political disputes.


According to Brandis, contemporary green politics have the same source as Nazism.


He accused Bob Brown of zealotry, fundamentalism, contempt for political institutions – which he apparently wishes to destroy – eco-fascism and militant racist nationalism.


He accused the Greens of being a sinister force with an absolute indifference to the truth and a belief system both anti-semitic and pathological.


He concluded by saying: "This is the kind of crypto-fascist politics we do not want in this country".


What nonsense. In the past it has been mainly the Left which has abused the memory of the Holocaust in this way.

Hitler comparisons have become so cliche, just like labelling somebody a communist, a traitor and a terrorist. I won't bother attaching any of those labels to Howard or Shrub. "Bushist" and Neocon" will suffice ;-)

2. Why am I concerned about this?

These accusations of Hitlerism and facism are become more and more prevalent. I have a "strong" feeling many things will happen at once. I don't know what they are, but I think something is going to happen.

3. I wouldn't be too concerned.

This is a last gasp from Howard and his minions who now realize that the public hates their guts. Unless a frame-up of monumental proportions takes place, this "campaign" will give the Greens another senate seat at least. And by the way, conspiracies in Australia have a funny habit of being exposed.

And since we have preferential voting in Australia, you can't split the progressive vote as easily as in the US.

4. yes, many on this DU board called the DC anti-war protestors

the very same names...and they gathered many to help them fling the 'Hitlerism and facism' and 'stalinist killers' labels at the brave Patriotic anti-war protestors....(many reporters and government people read read this as a public opinion overview),

the vicious attack by some DUers was followed quickly by wolfowitz making the exact same comparison...that 'leftists' were indeed un-American stalinists....

very few DUers were brave enough to stand up to those on this board who viciously attacked the DC anti-war protestors...and the attackers continued for five days, with the same kind of hate/bigotry/racist posts...few here STOOD UP to fight those nasty people...few....

I agree fully that there is about to be a BIG crack-down by shrub, and it may be another Kent state massacre...it's saddens me greatly that nasty people on this board fueled the upcoming crack-down...
