it's time for some candidates to drop out

although i like them and agree with MANY of their views,
I think DK, CMB, AS should drop out.

This will give the major candidates real face time during the debates.
I would also like the debates to allow for 2 minute answers, rather than 1 minute soundbites.

How many debates are left?
The American people need to see more of these guys on tv.
There are probably many people in the south who don't know who HD is.

We also need to portray a unified democratic message of opposing GWB.

Who are you to decide who should stay and who should go? Given the manner in which our party is struggling for its soul, I think it's IMPORTANT to have more voices, not less, in the debates. But perhaps the forum could be changed slightly to allow for more vigorous discussion....

If anyone should drop out, it should be Lieberman. He is essentially doing the work of the RW for them by providing ammunition that will be used against the eventual nominee (which certainly WON'T be him). Additionally, he has ZERO grassroots support -- even all of his campaign events are fat-cat fundraisers.

11. Attention span issues.

You can't get people to sit still for a movie that lasts that long, let alone something as serious in nature as a political debate.

I say round robin is the way to go. Draw the pairs out of a hat, make up a schedule so that everybody gets to debate everybody else, and schedule two of them back to back twice a week. Everybody but one 'bye' gets face time every week, the answers get more substantive, and if you don't want to watch a certain pair of candidates, you still control the clicker.

A head to head with Joe Lieberman vs. Al Sharpton would be intriguing, don'tchathink?

5. Not going to happen

All three of these candidates are running knowing that they are not going to win. The lack of success of their canpaigns is no surprise to them, it is what they have expected. Each of these three have reasons that they are running, but winning the Democratic nomination is not one of them.

10. Leave Sharpton In

Maybe but I honestly want Sharpton in there. He may not garner enough votes because A) he's black and B) he's Reverend, but he's the most entertaining candidate out there and seriously he keeps these debates worth watching. I love the guy and how articulate he is, it's just sad that the National Media won't accept him as a serious candidate.

6. Besides, we have eleven weeks to go before

the very first event where voters get to express their preferences, the Iowa caucuses.

Let's see how those turn out, and then we'll see who should drop out. Better yet, let's wait till Super Tuesday.

I mean really, people were asking DK, CMB, and AS to drop out two months ago. I don't know how the others are faring, but every indication is that DK's support is growing, not shrinking.

Just because you don't think that anyone with non-corporate-approved ideas is "serious" doesn't mean that these candidates are not, in fact, serious. I think that they are seriously concerned about the state this country is in and attracting other people who are seriously concerned on a deep level that goes way beyond the necessary first step of getting Bush out.
