"Freedom isn't free?"
Just heard a soldier from the home base of the soldiers who were killed in Iraq today. OK, freedom isn't free. But the sad truth is these soldiers were not fighting for their freedom, our freedom, or that of their families. Iraq never was a threat to our "freedom" and for our military to continue to frame it in these terms is sinful! To guilt whip the American people into believing that their freedom was or is at stake and to be against this invasion and occupation of Iraq is to be against freedom is just plain evil!

1. Something the Iraqis know quite well.
No bid contracts, however, are on the house.

2. "My taxes pay your salary, solidier. So shut up and do your job."

would be a valid response in keeping with the tone of the "Freedom isn't free"

On edit: You could also just say "You get paid"

3. Freedom IS free
"Freedom is something you're born with, like your eyes & ears.
When someone tries to take away your freedom, the degree to which you resist is the degree to which you are free."

I don't remember who said that...but it's a great quote.
