The following excerpt by Subcomandante Marcos is something I believe is true, and I am posting it so that you will understand that I am not an uninformed idiot:
The global power of the financial centers is so great, that they can afford not to worry about the political tendency of those who hold power in a nation, if the economic program (in other words, the role that nation has in the global economic megaprogram) remains unaltered. The financial disciplines impose themselves upon the different colors of the world political spectrum in regards to the government of any nation. he great world power can tolerate a leftist government in any part of the world, as long as the government does not take measures that go against the needs of the world financial centers. But in no way will it tolerate that an alternative economic, political and social organization consolidate. For the megapolitics, the national politics are dwarfed and submit to the dictates of the financial centers. It will be this way until the dwarfs rebel . .
http://flag.blackened.net/revolt/mexico/ezln/1997/jigsaw.htmlIt is very clear to me that Bush and the neocons have a long term fascist agenda which will destroy Democracy in the US. I am not aware of any special favors that Mr. Soros is asking in return for his donations to Democrats. If he asked for special favors, I would say that the money should not be accepted. It appears that he recognizes that Bush and the neocons are an imminent threat to democracy and the world. If I was as wealthy as George Soros, I would donate large sums to the Democrats as well. (Yes, I read the material; none of it surprises me.)
What, specifically, is your beef with taking George Soros's cash?
I see Bush and the neocons at this time to be as much of a threat to our nation and the world as Hitler and the Nazis were to Germany and the world in 1931. I believe it is imperative that they are stopped ASAP. I am willing to sacrifice some long term ideals in order to stop them. In studying the rise of fascism in Nazi Germany, I saw one key element that allowed the Nazis to assume control of Germany: The
lack of unified opposition among the other parties which opposed Hitler and allowed the Nazis to gain the largest number of seats in the Reichstag, which ultimately gave Hitler enough leverage to ultimately assume complete control. I believe we must all unite to get rid of Bush and the neocons. They are a clear and present danger. We must not make the same mistake that the German people made in the early 30's.
Since I don't have time to write a novel, here are some brief parallels between the Bush regime and a former totalitarian dictatorship:
1)Bush being appointed to his position without having been elected by popular mandate.
2)Using a domestic "terrorist" incident (9/11) to inspire fear and foster nationalism and public support for policies.
3)Using a domestic "terrorist" incident (9/11) to impose suspension of civil liberties (Patriot Act).
4)Control of media and use of widespread media propaganda to obtain and retain public support of policies.
5)Lying to the public in order to provide justification for and popular support for a preemptive attack on a sovereign nation that was not an imminent threat.
I believe that replacing Bush with any Democrat, even the obvious corporate shills, will help, at least temporarily. I would totally prefer that Kucinich gets elected , he seems to be very aware of transnational corporate influence on our government, and is the only candidate that seems willing to address this problem if he is elected.
But the bottom line is, Bush and the neocons have to go. If you don't already recognize that they have a fascist agenda, there is no sense in debating this.
I fully recognize that corporate influence is destroying the Democratic Party. I detest the DLC. However, the Democratic Party is the only realistic means of ousting Bush and the neocons at this time. Electing a Democrat to the Presidency (and gaining a Democratic majority in the House and/or Senate) will prevent, or at least slow down, the progression of fascism in the US. If Bush and the neocons are allowed to continue for four more years, they will assume an authoritarian control that will be unchallengeable through peaceful democratic means. In other words, the game is over, and we lost. Permanente.
Look, I'm already gone. I left the US right after Bush was selected, and don't plan to return unless drastic changes occur in the US government, and the corporate influence in government is neutralized. At least if Democrats regain some control of the government, it will buy enough time for people to try and fix it, or at least make financial preparations to split before the next RW cabal comes to power.
Can you give me a realistic alternative to electing a Democrat in stopping the Bush regime? I have not found one, and would appreciate it if you would let me know if you know of one. If Mr. Soros is going to help us get rid of Bush and the neocons, whatever his motivations, I say welcome aboard.
