Poll question: Does this guy look Presidential?

Former NATO (news - web sites) commander Wesley Clark (news - web sites) said the 2004 presidential election would be a referendum on Bush's 'war on terror,' which he accused the administration of losing.(AFP/File/Tim Sloan)

Looks should have nothing to do with an election but we all know they do. What do you think? Does an unposed for picture of Clark seem to have what it takes?

22. So what is the difference between this and who has the most
meet-ups? You should be fair and you're not. Looking presidential and how many meetups you have are both unimportant to some extent.

Although historians will tell you that it did have a positve factor for JFK when he debated Nixon.

I do think looks could effect my vote. In the extreme scenerio such as if Elizabeth Hurley were running for president I might look past many other deficiencies in her candidacy and still vote for here? Its the truth too. Might be human nature?

he LOOKS presidential. He's a handsome, handsome man. I'll give you that.

Now whether he's the best pick to be President, that's a whole different question.

But if it makes you feel good about it, then vote based on looks. That sounds like the sane thing to do.

As long as he doesn't open his mouth or sneer too obviusly. Small chubby bald men tend not to look Presidential, but that can change. All Women tend to not "look Presidential" since all Presidents have tended to look Male.

75. My teenage son had the best line during the first debate
He looked at Gephardt (who I think is a great guy by the way) and said, "Who's that? He looks like a dirty Q-tip."

70. ohh myyy goodnesss
that is one fine man. not only is he charming, smart, full of charisma and funny he is damned handsome. and i know handsome when i see it. ;-) looks like he could have posed for a older CK photo shot. this is one of his best yet! as a woman i love being attracted to an intelligent, strong man...who just happens to be the best candidate for president this country has. :-)

BTW howard is not handsome...he has a very unattractive mouth.

74. guys, listen to yourselves... You are talking about a PRESIDENT!
you'll never spend a minute with the president, you are not going to have nice dinners with him/her... He/she is somebody who's gonna make crucial decision about the future of your country. You don't hire your accountant based on his/her looks, right. Or the guy who's gonna fix your roof. You hire people who you believe can do a good job. In this thread I don't see simple trivia comments like "X has a nice nose"... You make it sound like "I love X's nose, therefore X is a winner and I'm gonna vote for this person"...

women in this thread sound like the freeper housewives who drool over Chimpster photos every day online!

90. Once
quite a number of years ago (in the early 70'), a friend wanted me to go to a Elvis concert. I moan and groaned since I was more of a Leon Russell kinda gal.

He told me the entertainment was watching the middle aged housewifes scream and cream for Elvis. I went and giggled until tears were streaming down my face and my tummy hurt.

That's what some women in this thread sound like to me.

78. True, but my accountant doesn't have his mug all over the television and
newspapers like 'Dear Leader' does. I can't change the channel fast enough whenever that idiot even makes a fleeting appearance on the screen.

he has what we women call "the yummy factor" and it's working for him lol :-)

Edited on Mon Dec-01-03 12:55 AM by japanduh
In that picture, he has steely, almost-reptilian eyes (battle-hardened?) that bely a keen, cunning intelligence, and chiseled, angular features. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing. In any event, its better than looking like a chimp. All I know is I don't want to be on the receiving end of a Clark "attack" ;)

with his eyes slightly more closed than we usually see. He doesn't have that "deer-in-the-headlights" look he seems to have in so many other shots.

86. Hell No
Martin Sheen looks Presidential, Bill Clinton looked Presidential, none of the candidates besides Braun is Presidential. She is courterous in every event, she has great ideas to fix this country, and so much more, she would probaly make the best President of the bunch but we don't always get our wishes.

...and for good reason.
I'm liking Clark more and more, not because of his looks, but because he has that aura of an actual PRESIDENT.
Chimpy McChimp has the aura of a tired, confused drunkard.

106. you can't be SERIES
the mouth? maybe; i can see that. but the eyes? Bush's are small, close-set, rather dull. Clark's got HUGH eyes that are well-placed, and he has a tendency to stare. Also Bush's eyelids constantly flutter whenever he's caught on camera, while Clark, it has been argued, never ever blinks.

104. Almost as Presidential as Lieberman
Just kidding. Lieberman is a right-wing elf whose sole purpose is to provide fodder for GOP ads next spring. He needs to do the right thing and drop out.

General Wesley Clark is a God and the right-wingers know it. They are very frightened...just ask my republican friends.

107. Oh Sweet Jesus, deliver me
Okay, first off... sure, he looks like a person who might be a president. (That's what 'presidential' is supposed to mean, right?)

HOWEVER, he does not look like someone I'd 'want to have a beer with', and that's what we need to counter, if we're to subscribe to the mind-numbingly stupid criteria you're using, right?

I mean, I believe that if you think something is wrong, then you don't do it. If you think something is wrong, but then you say, 'well, all these other people do it, so we have to do it, too, or we'll lose', then IMO you're not only subscribing to the same mind-numbingly stupid behavior, but you're fostering it, furthering it.

So, on the pretense that we're going to go ahead and play by the stupid rules, and say that how someone looks is a really important thing, then we must also consider that whether they're perceived as 'nice' also means a lot.

I mean, seriously, how 'handsome' was Nixon? Get me? People vote for who they like, and Clark doesn't strike me as 'likeable'. Maybe it's his shifty eyes, or his plastic-looking hair. Whatever it is, he doesn't have the 'want to have a beer with' criterion down pat, so don't start counting any chickens yet.

Oh, and have I mentioned today how much I fear for the future of the human race?

:puke:
