"Ultrasound" crowd control weapon used in Miami?
This describes the use of infrasound and ultrasound. Ultrasound being "researched" for crowd control.

http://www.forteantimes.com/articles/153_sonicweapons.shtml

And here it is at the FTAA. Looks like a large version of a hand held device pictured in the article.

1. Police Protect The Rich From The Poor, The Haves From The Have Nots
As the excesses of the BFEE continue to unfold, these tactics will be used with greater frequency and with greater indifference, all to maintain entrenched political and corporate interests.

Get ready for a rough ride and don't expect much sympathy from the establishment.

The establishment will do whatever it takes to remain in power.

2. I had seen that pic and thought it may be the microwave radiation
crowd control device

I have seen no accounts of it being used

what it is. From it's positioning it appears to be some kind of weapon.
Of course ultrasound can not be heard, so who knows? There were many accounts of "bad vibes" which demonstrators attempted to counteract with drumming and music.

It's doesn't take a tin foil hat (though that might help fend of some of those sound waves, lol) to imagine these weapons being used because they certainly exist and 'crowd control' ("non-lethal'?) weapons has become a large and growing industry.

8. Protestors need an ociloscope and a mic pick up.
to tell for sure. A scope can pick up sound that is eather to low or too high to hear.

3. wow, hopefully the crowds won;t be so smart as to start
using headphones when they go on a protest... Seems pretty dumb to me...

6. Infrasound more likely than ultrasound
i.e., sound below the lower threshold of human audibility (~20Hz)
rather than that above the upper threshold (~20kHz).

FWIW, headphones would have no effect as the vibrations affect the
body organs directly - chest cavity, throat, stomach/gut - so simply
covering the ears would not provide much protection.

(Having been at a Status Quo concert a few weeks ago, I assure you
that you "feel" high power low frequency sound rather than "hear" it!)

Interesting photo though ... it doesn't look as though the device is
more than about 6 feet off the ground (guessing here at the size of
the pickup carrying it) so, if used in that position, the police in
front of it would catch an awful lot of the effect - both directly
(from the rear) and indirectly (reflected off their riot shields).
I suspect that the best tactic against such a weapon would be to
close in on the police so that they (and their shields) block as much
of the output as possible.

Trivia point: The band Hawkwind used to use a ring modulator (operated
by Dikmik I think) to generate sub-sonics at some of their gigs. When
these were combined with the various substances consumed at such events,
the effect was often spectacular for the observers!

9. Yes, and these kinds of infrasound cause people to feel hostile and
depressed. What exactly where they trying to accomplish I wonder.

7. The idea has been around a while. I remember reading...
about it in 1967. I think it was in Popular Science, not sure.
