Clark to Air Ads in Three Primary States

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Wesley Clark will begin airing television commercials this week in three states with Feb. 3 primaries, spreading the TV ad wars beyond Iowa and New Hampshire

Clark's campaign is spending about $200,000 in each state - South Carolina and Oklahoma beginning Tuesday and Arizona later this week - to run for at least a week a 60-second biographical ad that highlights his military career.

Clark's move is consistent with his overall campaign strategy. The candidate decided to abandon Iowa, which holds its caucuses Jan. 19, and although he has focused on New Hampshire and its Jan. 27 primary, a win seems unlikely for the late entrant. The next tests come Feb. 3 in seven states.

Campaign advisers say internal polling shows Clark either tied with or leading candidates in those states, and the ads are meant to boost voter knowledge of Clark, who entered the campaign Sept. 17

Good to hear that Clark is moving the whole process beyond just NH and Iowa. But, this does seem like a LOT of money for this early in the race.

a little hall alot high for the timeframe. HE will however get federal campaign funding in January. That is an advantage for accepting fed funds.

4. Let's hope, otherwise, I fear he is misspending money

He's got a spending cap (Due to Federal Funds) and I'm a little worried that this still may not be the most logical approach, but, hey, I'm not in charge of his campaign. It is a very BOLD move, though...I can't wait to see one of the spots!

5. I think it's smart

Dean did it early in Iowa and it seemed to pay off. We're still at a stage where getting your name out is priority 1. It's not too much money. I hope it pays off.

If he can win some of those later states and win enough of them we could overcome losing in Iowa and New Hampshire, assuming that he loses in those states. Clinton didn't win either of those two and look where he got to.
