Poll question: 12/2 Democratic Candidate STRAW poll!
I think we should keep doing these things to see if there are switches based on all of the candidate bashing.

Anyways, VOTE!

17. No, it represents the BASE of the Dem Party, or at least a big part of it.
Clark's appeal has always been couched in terms of bringing in Democratic, Independent, and Repub moderates. Well, I'd say he's doing super if he's this popular with the base, plus able to attract center to right of center folks!

that Clark Corps had to put a call out on the blog for back up.

And he still is neck and neck with Dean on DU.

Of course looking at meetup numbers or fundraising numbers and to see Dean is miles ahead of CLark.

How's clark polling in NH again? 6%? 8%?

41. Clarkies showed up late on DU
Edited on Tue Dec-02-03 09:23 PM by Sterling
That much is obvious. Although I do like things about Clark it is clear that DU is just a tool to promote Clark to a lot of Clark people. I have been here for 3 years as many others have as well. I wish I felt that the Clarkies were team players and will be with us after the nomination even if Clark is gone but I am not sure that will happen.

I have the feeling we will be back to the regular crowd which with a couple of exceptions is not a bad thing. Some DUers have organized to do some great work not related to a specific candidate. Hopefully the Clark newbies will see this potential and become long DUers even if Clark is not in the picture.

the mods should pin these. Maybe do them once a week on Monday's. Leave the poll up for 24 hours and then close it. Then repeat the next week, etc. You could chart the results and make it like an official DU tracking poll.

As I recall, DU just had a very successful fundraising period. No doubt our new Clarkies are fulfilling their civic responsibility to DU too.

I was debunking the popular myth of the "Clark Blog Freepers" but you really didn't seem to read my post. I'm not attacking Clark, rather the opposite, trying to defend him.

Also "Freeping" has become nomenclature for skewing poll results due to a call for outside members to vote.

got like 70% of the vote. Deanies where on the thread BRAGGING about sending out the batcall on a blog. One of those who was bragging had the nerve to post last week that she had never seen that on a dean blog. Does she think people don't remember the things she posts? People in glass houses shouldn't cast stones.

37. Calling someone a freeper is not the same thing

as saying someone is freeping a poll.

Freeping a poll means simply that you're getting a bunch of folks to work together to skew poll results. You need not be a freeper to freep a poll, but they made the act famous so they got the name.

Given Clark's support for the IWR, his time as a corporate lobbyist, his sycophantic praise of Reagan and Bush Sr, and the way his flip flops more than a dying fish.... Clark and Kerry are peas in a pod.

who just can't help but fall in line for that big bold war hawk protector image. They get all gooey for someone who will protect them and take care of them.

Whereas Dean appeals to the fighters and folks who want to stand up and take their country back. Dean appeals to those of us who want to take an active part in our government, who want to be empowered.

Clark appeals to folks who are scared and want daddy to protect them from the boogieman. It is a very different dynamic.

There are also the bitter Kerry supporters who don't care one bit about the country or beating Bush... they just hate Dean because he beat their guy.

What is telling though, is that even when putting calls out for reinforcements on the Clark blog… they’re still neck and neck with Dean.

60. Basically true
Just about all of it. The bitterness in the candidate threads is pretty transparent. There's nothing to "hate" about Dean...he's a great guy. All the candidates are pretty good people. But, for some reason, as the front runner, Dean gets most of the hate.

And I'm not saying this as a Dean supporter. I don't really feel the need to defend him. I'm saying this as someone who's sick of the nastiness here on DU, from ALL sides.

To all of the haters: tough titties. Get over it.

I've switched my support around a lot, but I really think that Edwards is the best candidate for the general election, not just because he is from the South, but because he can appeal to moderates for a number of reasons. He is also a loyal democrat.

I like Clark too for the same reasons but I just don't trust his loyalty to the party.
